What do people think our trade targets should be for this year? I feel because this draft is probably weak we should pursue some talent through drafting. Ones we could target:

Adelaide: plenty of talls on the list - mckernan, sellar, talia, walker and davis
Lots of talented bigmen perhaps someone will want more opportunities

Port Adelaide: Butcher apparently wants out - talented KPF. I think trengove would cost to much. Moore perhaps?

Essendon: Seem to have lots of big men - Hurley, Gumbleton, Pears, Carslile, ryder among others. With Joe Daniher being drafted to the club, would any of these guys be tempted to move

GC: Lots of young guys on the list who GC may want to move for compensation picks

This list is a start. Ideally a key back would be nice. Any other players geelong should target??

Travis Boak, local boy, surely he doesn't wanna stay at Port and an absolute gun player. What is our salary cap situation? Surely there's room after the events of last year

Pretty sure Boak re-signed with Port, he won't be coming back any time soon. Dangerfield would be an excellent trade but the Crows would be expecting a lot in return, which we may not be willing to part with.

Geelong are generally crap at trading players. I prefer they just go to the draft and get the best young blokes they can. if this years draft is as good as some say then get some fresh blood.

Would we trade Menzel (a South Australian) for Dangerfield - direct swap?

Our trade targets should be to ensure Dawson isn't poached.

Back on trade activity, we obviously need a good key defender if we can look at one, Trengove could be worth considering if he comes back.

Always can use more speed but quality players with pace are hard to find and cost a lot.

Other than that we should be keeping our powder dry for when Dangerfield is out of contract at the end of next year, a compo pick plus whatever would trump what any other club can/will offer, and I get the sense his homesickness will only get worse not better.

No way, while I think that's a fair trade no way we'd trade away a 10 year player like that. The only SA boy on our list we'd trade for Danger would be Mackie (if he wanted to) and that's purely because of his age.

They'll take what they can get. The reality is if he says he's coming back to Moggs Creek it'll only be Vic clubs that bid for him, and given that next year's draft is looking like a superdraft, as good as he is most Vic clubs will be very reticent to give up their first rounder +. We are in the advantageous position, if we activate the compo pick at the start of next year, of having two first round picks, which means we can trade one without trading completely out of the top end of the draft, which other clubs can't do. So realistically if you offered that pick (let's say it's around pick 10 depending on where we finished) plus our second rounder or a reasonable player (i.e. someone towards the middle tier or the fringe) or equivalent piece, the Crows won't be happy but ultimately they'll take it because the draft is very strong, and they won't get a better offer elsewhere.

I'd have a look at McIntosh. Probably not out of contract though.

Not out of contract for another 12 months and will be 28 by then. Absolute quality but probably the wrong age bracket for us by then, we need to target guys between 22 and 25 if we can.

Dangerfield is not that good, would rather Boak anyday..

I'd be happy with either, they're both good, but if Travis was going to come to us it would have been at the end of last year.

Dangerfield is very very inconsistent.

Boak - What you see if what you get I suppose. I havent seen alot of him this year, but from what I have - he is all class.

Not sure we'd bother trading.
It's not like we need a particular player to lift us to a flag.

Much cheaper to go via the draft.

I would agree actually, I think Boak is definitely the better player now, albeit that I think Dangerfield's inconsistency comes partly from never being settled in one role and if he has that and good coaching, he has a very ceiling in terms of what he could become over time.

The other point I would add is much as I love Boak, if he keeps playing the type of role he is playing and Port's midfield don't improve much, his body will suffer serious wear and tear before he hits about 27.

Like the club for which he plays. He needs a new environment in which to flourish, one closer to home. He is a Brownlow medalist in waiting, and it aint going to happen at Adelaide.

Yeah I agree, when I watch Dangerfield play I see the same kind of flashes that Goddard would show from time to time, before disappearing back into mediocrity that plagued him early in his career. No offense to Boak, but he's always going to be just one (albeit decent) link in a midfield chain, and midfielders aren't something we lack now or in 5 years time.

Do we need Dangerfield?
Where would we play him? Mid or Fwd?

We don't really have a goal kicking mid since Ablett left. Corey is pushing 30. Bartel is 28(?). Ling is all but finished as a midfielder.

Yes we could do with a Dangerfield to bolster a midfield led by Selwood.

we would, would Crows. Seriously a fair swap. Menzel is my favourite young one.

Agree totally. Dangerfield at Geelong would be a major get, but I wouldn't really like to see Menzel starring elsewhere. There has to be another way.

Dangerfield and Selwood together......WOW

Would love to get Dangerfield to Geelong. The reasons for his inconsistency are his age and the Crows form.

The talent is there, and its a bucket load of talent, consistency will come with age and experience, and when it does this bloke will dominate the competition.

If Craig grows more likely Dangerfield will leave. What would we offer? Mackie + something (1st rounder?) would suffice.

Does anyone know if the F/S bidding is done before or after trade period? If its done before our first round pick will be off the table because we will probably need it to draft Bews.
