I know Mitchell is contracted. But wasn't there a case when FA first came out where they cut a players contract short so they could move as a FA and get a compo pick off the AFL rather than trading.

If pick 69 us what is being touted... would it be more beneficial for the Hawks to cut his contract and let him come here as a FA and get *possibly* a better draft pick?

I think there was a case where a player who had triggered an extra year in his contract chose not to take the year and go into FA instead. Might have been Dal Santo?

Don't think we could argue that applies here. Mitchell signed a new deal back in June.

pick 69 for Hawks best player. Deal of the century. If we only get 1 decent season out of him, it's worth it.

For pick 69, I'd say even if he never played a game for us it'd still be worth it. Need him for his attitude and approach to success plus future coaching role more than as a player. The fact he'll be a very handy player for us is cream.
