If we can find our way into another second round pick, I would think it's very hard to complain about our trade period.

I'm sure some of you will try regardless.

FFS why don't we just piss our picks away. Injury prone Ruck to cover injury prone ****ing Rucks.

Me too thanks.

So apparently we have salary cap issues. Man it would suck if he had a key defender who is earning $600,000+ a year and playing WAFL that we refuse to trade.

What a terrible situation that would be.
Obviously we don't expect him to be playing WAFL next year, or we would be trading him.

Salary cap issues always seem to be nonsense anyway. Clubs have a fair bit of flexibility to adjust contracts, frontload, even go over the cap now if you go under in later years.

10 and 48 for O'Meara looks like a dud offer until you consider Tom Mitchell went for 14 - and he hasn't been sidelined with a major injury for two years. Suns have every right to play hardball but you can see why the Hawks wouldn't want to lift their offer

With the picks they have, I wonder if Gold Coast are drawing a line in the sand with O'Meara to send a message to young players that "you can't treat us like finishing school" before buggering off to Melbourne.

Would honestly rather play Cole there if Butler isn't in the side, thought he showed plenty in the games he played this year. We need to start developing our younger guys, not keep topping up with average crap from other teams
Agree totally;lets move on the Mr Mediocres and get some young blood established in the team.Worsfold played all the kids and developed sides very quickly.Simpson seems to be the opposite; play the experienced bigger bodied players and try and stay in contention. How did that work out at Norf??

There is no given that Nic will get back to where he was .. ever. Took Lecras over 12 months to get back to any of his previous form. Emac still yet to get anything like near his best. I think we should be looking to the future without Nic. We have been reliant on him for far too long.
Let a guy dream. No need to bring a reality based wet blanket in here

To be fair not many players in 2016 had been playing blinders in the WAFL to be bumped up to the senior team.

Last year he brought in Mcinnes, Nelson, Duggan & Barrass just to name a few. This year he had Cole & Karps in the team.

Salary cap issues seems to be a polite way of telling Ballantyne we're not interested.

Have been able to find room for Mitchell and Vardy too it seems - although Hawks helped us with Mitch and Vardy wouldn't be on a big contract you'd think

Or a million a year for NN when he is not worth that (rusling some jimmies here) and had no chance in going to another club.

No doubt, which is why it's weird that Hawks expect they can get it done with just picks - they probably could have sealed the trade by now if they'd been willing to trade Breust + 10.

I get the impression it's not so much us refusing to trade him, more other clubs being unwilling to take on his big salary and then also give up a decent pick. Plus wanting to do right by him etc
