Butler has really lifted his output in the last couple of years, don't understand the hate personally.

Nobody hates Butler. He will be 31 in a couple of months though and his body isn't very durable. It's better than it used to be but he still gets niggling injuries that put him out for a game or 2.

He is very much a forward/ruck. Very mobile. Pretty similar to Lycett really. Cats rated him through the roof a while back but injuries have got the better of him and then they got Zac Smith last year. Better longer term option than Giles with a pretty big upside as well. A good get for a lack pick if we can get him.

Hate might be the wrong word but you want to chuck a past premiership player onto the rookie list.
Even if its only for list management, the amount of people who have randomly brought up that Butler isn't best 22, Butler should be delisted etc is average at best.
This is a guy who just had a career best season and saved our arse several times.
He gave us the opportunity to win the GWS match in the dying stages.
Butman has much more but hurt for you all :rainbow:

He's better than Nelson and Cole.
Kids with only a handful of games don't win you flags. He's a required player.

OK then..I'm actually a big fan of butler and can't see the problem with him spending the offseason on the rookie list and being upgraded before a game is played
I'm not talking about showing him the door ala Mitchell or Stevie j

I follow the local lads a bit closer. Butler left just before Central Districts dynasty and did well enough to snag a flag with us making it all worth it.
Think Hurn won one with them.
Waters played for Westies who only just won a flag last year after a 32 year drought.
Lycett jumped straight into the AFL system I'm pretty sure.
Karpany and Allen are still quite raw.

More of a natural forward/ mobile ruckman which Vozzo was after. I think the theory is if Lycett is fit its 1st ruck Lycett/ 2nd Vardy.
If Lycett goes down its Giles/ Vardy.
Giles seen as more of 1st ruck. Vardy also better coverage if Kennedy or JD miss.
All pending on Vardys fitness of course. Has had lots of troubles staying on the park
