Can't start until we have coaches for everyone, so if you know anyone you think might be interested, get recruiting.

I'd like to stick with 16 teams but 14 will do. Teams available are Collingwood, Hawthorn and West Coast.

All coaches, new or old, will be able to re-draft their lists from free agents and other reset lists if they wish.

I've done my studying on this competition and ready to roll, when will trading begin?

One thing though, players who are coming out of contract go into a bidding process, but what is the minimum starting bid for the uncontracted player?

Is it the same salary they were earning previously or a new salary determined by their 2008 season average score?

Last year (our first year with the 'bidding') the minimum was $100 000. Will probably increase this year as does the Salary Cap.

I'm pretty sure we are adding some rules to it this year, so it runs smoother and requires more thought and strategy to who you bid on etc. Last year we could bid on everyone as long as is fit under the cap.

Without anything in front of me I think the cap's going up by 250k so the minimum salaries will go up by 5k. The 2008 score has some effect on players when trading, not when bidding. That's a large chunk of what I have to organise before we start.

Only changes to last year are you can only have 2 active bids at a time, and you can only make 3 bids on any player.

I still think I can get my bits done this weekend so we should be up and running early next week

I don't see anything wrong with this really. If you overbid, hoping just to force the price up, then you risk being left with the winning bid for a plsyer you might not really want. Personally speaking I also don't see why there needs to be a limit of three bids by a team on one particular player. If you want less bids, just increase the amount by which you overbid by. (e.g 10%)

Just a question on trades...

Can we trade uncontracted players in and out of our teams?
And if we can are we allowed to then bid for that player in the pre-season draft?

It's all in the rules thread mate.

You can trade uncontracted players. Once traded the new owner decides on the contract so no you can't bid for that player back again.

I agree. What I meant was last year it was crazy and there were bids everywhere. Russian has it sorted with only allowing each team 2 active bids at a time. :thumbsu:

I like the 3 bid rule.

Not sure on that, yet. But, I suppose we should test it out.

I like the 3 bid rule, it makes the coach think about wether it is the right time/amount to bid on a certain player. Cuts down on bullshit bids as well.

But the part where it could fall over is that the manager who opens the bidding for a player is disadvantaged because whoever bids on that player 2nd will have the final say over the coach who bids first.

The 3 bid rule with the 2 active bid rule adds a cool realism into the game. You can't just bid on heaps of players, you have to be more selective which is more in line with real AFL. And the 3 bid rule is quite realistic because in the real stuff if you got rejected by a player 3 times you would have stuff all chance of getting him. If you want to make a cheeky 1st bid, you still can. Then bid as much as you are prepared to give with a 2nd bid, then you still have a 3rd bid if anyone counters. If you were prepared to then give a 4th bid, its because you didn't bid enough with your 2nd/3rd bids.

Second that

I don't mind the two active bid rule. That's clearly useful in terms of keeping the running of the game relatively sane. It's the three bid rule by one club on one player that I really don't see the point of.

And the 3 bid rule is quite realistic because in the real stuff if you got rejected by a player 3 times you would have stuff all chance of getting him.

But the club's not getting "rejected". The club is being overbid by another club for that player' services. The player would sign with the club that has the bid, but a better offer, whether in monetary or length of contact terms, is made. That simulates lengthy and often involved player-club negotiations completed over a period of time. The club makes an offer, the player considers that offer as well as offers from other clubs. The player then goes back to his original club with any other offer, the club has a chance to match or better that offer. That make take a number of interactions. Why it should be restricted to just three bids on one player by a club. To me it doesn't really make sense or serve any useful purpose in terms of the game.

In my view it's more 'realistic' and entertaining from a players point of view to simulate the battle between arriving at the market price for players as well clubs trying to fit as many high quality players under the salary cap as possible. Clubs are trying to sign their players as cheaply as possible, players are trying to get as good a deal as possible.

for trades if a player is not on anyones list how do you pick him up?
pre-season draft or is there free agency.

and if you trade a player can the team that you trade the player to change his salary or not?
