Trades- Round 3

Yes earlier in the week, I too would have traded Duffield to Grimes. But then I read that Freo are still trying to get the ball to him. So I just can't see this average continuing.(He got 3 50s and 1 60 last year). He also averages 67 and 73 against geelong and brisbane....

I cant imagine there being a right answer to this until next week :(

Worrying and thinking a lot!

Seriously, I've got a "idea from left-field" plan for Duffield, which basically involves trading him down to a rookie-pricer, and using the cash to upgrade Foley to a super-premium in the MIDS. Everyone else with Foley seems to be trading in the other direction, down to Libba/Curnow!

Unfortunately, that will use up 2 trades to produce a structure that I should have had from the start, but it just feels right. I'm hopeful of picking up a solid replacement D5 in around R7-8, perhaps Brian Lake on the cheap.
Heppell is the only rookie pricer that I'd think of downgrading to for Duffield. But Libba has greater points scoring potential than Heppell, and in the end that swayed me to the Foley -> Libba, Duffield -> Enright, and make $140k for an upgrade in my forwards in round 4.

Thanks for your view. Good luck with your trades :thumbsu:, I certainly had that trading-plan in mind earlier in the week. (BTW, I think your 2 trades will net you closer to $125K rather than $140K, unless you added in the spare cash you already had banked.)

I've already got Heppell, so I'm looking at another rookie-pricer who hopefully can stick around as a perm D8-D10 for most of the year. Not everyone needs to be a cash cow - I think there is a role for a cheap dependable backliner who can act as insurance in later rounds of the year (eg. J.Hunt, M. Maguire last year...although MM did end up breaking down).

Up until an hour ago I had basically locked in trades of

Out-Palmer, In-Libba
Out-Astbury, In-Enright

I made the mistake of starting the season without Swan, got Pendles instead. I was hoping Swan would have a slow start to the season and I could of picked him up along the way (haha).
So it got me thinking that this may be the only chance I will get of picking up Swan.

I could trade out Palmer, bring in Libba, freeing up about $217,000. Instead of then upgrading Astbury to Enright, I could downgrade to say McKernan, freeing up another $100,000, leaving me with $317,000 to play with.

I already have Pendles in my midfield as well as Kraks. I could swap Kraks into the forward line and bring Fyfe into the mids. Fyfe is worth around $280,000. I'm thinking (hopefully) that Swan will rise to around $530,000 at most? (first year at this). So even if Fyfe doesnt have a price rise, Swan would cost me around $250,000, still leaving me $67,000 in the bank. Kraks would take Fyfe's spot in the forwards and I get Swan, but miss out on getting Enright into the backline.
Thoughts?

To trade or not to trade

Hey Guys,

My team:

Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Suckling, Lower, Stanley (Duigan, O'Shea, Batchelor)

Swan, Boyd, Montagna, Pendlebury, Bartell, Krakouer (Libba, Harris, Irons)

Cox, Vickery (Smith, McCauley)

Franklin, Roo, Johnson, Goodes, Fyfe, Knights, Tapscott (Richo, Darling, Matera)

Ranked around 750 with all trades left.
Think I've nailed Suckling and all mid/fwd rooks, with hope and potential with the back and ruck rooks/choices

Trying to stay ahead and consolidate with a good start.

Problems;

1. Second Ruck: Vickery, Smith, McCauley. Though all will play and make profit
2. Multi-Byes coming up
3. Really want Chapman, Rioli and ruck premium - whichever ruck rises to the top, soon

Like to know what you would choose if in same situation? Cheers

1. Nothing
2. Switch Fyfe to mid, downgrade him Curnow and pocket and sit on the cash for future. Or, with this also upgrade Batchelor to Adcock
3. Sideway Fyfe to Dawes ~ 35 ppg = 700. Will Dawes continue, did I get Fyfe wrong, is it worth it...
4. Downgrade Broughton to Adcock, or even Heppell. Or, together with sideway Fye to Dawes
5. Something other?

Zakk: Conca looks to be getting more game time than Atley, but wait until selection!

I've made some decisions I already regret, first was picking JPK, and second was keeping Hibberd.

Im considering trading JPK for Libba then waiting for Conca to rise enough in value to trade...only problem is my mids will be weak for a while (Swan, Bartel, Priddis, Libba, Harris, Swallow/Heppell)

I thought Hibs would get an early run, and he may yet still, and I'm deciding whether to hang onto him for DP or trade for Libba (dont make any cash that way which kind of sucks)

Thoughts would be appreciated!

delete thread, you should really open your eyes to were you need to go to get your answer answered.

It is now know that the subs will be rotated between players, because players cant afford to lose match fitness. eg: id be very suprised to see NLM as the emergency for a 3rd week in a row, if he is than definitly wont be a 4th week. Also Palmer very unlikely this week, the reason is that players lose match fitness to quickly if they are the sub each week, although a young player like Gaff can still be building his match fitness.

Im waiting for the time when Darling and Heppell are subs.

I cant believe people trading out Selwood or Duffield it makes no sense, especailly the Selwood one. Selwoods price wont drop much at all and hes a keeper so his price shouldnt matter anyway. But if comes out and scores 2x 115 scores than his price will drop little and he will likely have a small breakeven the next week to make up for the lose of money. But as i said money shouldnt matter for a keeper. Its a dumb trade to the fact that he hasnt shown anything bad, got knocked out after scoring 27 in less than a quarter, could well be a very good pick. To trade Selwood out after paying all that money for him to recieve 27 points and a zero doesnt make sense. Wont has changed your mind on him that he wont avg 105+ for the remainder of the year?? TheMainGuy??

Duffield i see slightly different because i dont think he will avg 88-90 this year. Although again the dockers may well get Ibbotson back next week which could therefore release Duffield and also the returns of Mzungu and Hayden around mid year can only be a good thing for him. Id except the trade to Enright and one other back, but no one else seems worthy.

Ill be keeping Broughton, everyone says hes going along badly. Wait to he doesnt have to man up on a small adelaide crow forward this week like Banfield and SJ in the first few weeks. Hes avg 23 disposals just needs to get his usual marks and tackles. What if he scores 100 this week his avg jumps to 80 and than he goes along solidly avg 85+ form there, id be very happy.

Not sure what to do about Hibberd. I thought he would come in Rd2, but the club hasn't told us if he's fit. He's not injured, but he hasn't played VFL. He could replace Myers who is out for 4 weeks. Grrrrr ...

Re: To trade or not to trade

Well I am no expert. Eventho ranked 750 I still need help like everyone.

Most seem to have the a similar problem atm, which is a bit different to mine and hard to find for me such as Fyfe for example

I was in the same position this time last year too but finished around 10k.

So this time I want to go the other way towards 1st instead.

No harm in asking :)

If Hibberd is not selected this week with Myers out, I think that I'll have to trade him to out. He then becomes a logical trade down target in another 4-5 weeks.

I'll put it to you in a slightly different way, that requires you to think outside the box. How would you assess these two "adjustment trades"?

Foley ----> Otten (bench-use only)
Duffield ----> Pendlebury

I really want to get Libba, it's between Swallow and Hibberd. Seems crazy to get rid of Swallow, ridiculous really, but it gives me an extra 70k and if I trade out Hibberd I lose my mid/def DPP which I know I'll no doubt need in the next 6 weeks.

First conundrum of the year.

I'll be going Duffman to Enright. I rode Doughty down last year and won't be repeating this year.

Ok really need help making a decision on this. Should I go waters to deledio or waters to McKernan and save to upgrade to another premium midfielder like Boyd or Bartel. And then upgrade a defender later.

I've already got Goddard, grimes, enright, Gibbs as premium defenders
