Who will geelong want to trade, and get at the end of this year?
I read somewhere that Cousins wants to come back to Geelong........is this true?
Also, who will we be interested in the national draft? The local boy Lachie Henderson?

All the talk I have heard is that he wants a change of scenery... That he is disillusioned with the Eagles who have made him somewhat of an outcast... He was a passionate Geelong supporter as a kid (obviously since his Dad played for them) and a trade to Geelong is on the cards. Shouldn't have to give up the world to secure his services either.

it's all just rumors really. If Cousins loved Geelong as much as you say then he would have come here from the start. The problem of drafting a big name player is that we don't have the salary cap room for them without giving up some decent players. Personally I think he will return to the eagles and stay there.

Geelong should get in Cousin's family's ear and say Geelong is the best place to look after your son and get Cousins to stand his ground saying Geelong is the only place he wants to go.

Nothing for West Coast at all as far I'm concerned. Its bad enough with all the share options and lucrative property teams and crap that come from wealthy WA miners (outside of the salary cap) to that cheating prick of a team.

They can get nothing as far as I'm concerned.

West is a victorian was recruited from Gippsland U18. Spencer is the WA captain your thinking of maybe?

The salary cap goes up next year which is why a lot of the top players are looking to renegotiate.

So who would we be looking to trade for picks? Playfair? King? Byrnes?

Everyone seems to be pretty keen to offload a few of our solid players such as byrnes, hunt and even playfair, but you have to understand that we are having a great run with injuries at the moment. If 4 or 5 players go down like has happened to the saints and melbourne these are the sorts of guys who have senior experience that can come in and play a role as we push towards finals.

Playfair is hardly a solid player. He will be hard pressed not to get delisted next year let alone traded. I would look to trade Byrnes & Callan and shop around a few others see if we can get a good price.

There is no urgency to trade but if we could get something above there value than I would definately consider a trade.

I know many will say those three are too important but I think we have the players to cover the loss of 1 of them.

If you read that article on Jimmeh, you would have read that he recently accepted a deal 100k+ less than what Collingwood and Essendon were throwing his way... Strong bonds will keep our core group of players together I would have thought. Why would they want to leave Geelong considering a Premiership is seemingly round the corner. As for trade bait players, I guess it's all going to come down to how we go this year. If we win the flag, then we won't need to chase players, but if we fall short again, then a Cousins type player could be the X-factor.

Trading always comes down to what you want AND what you have to give up to get it. I'd love Judd, and I'm sure West Coast would let him go if we offered them $20 million and all our draft picks.

The other thing is draft picks are worth a LOT more than they used to be. Partly this has to do with the level of testing - it's much less of a lottery than it used to be. Look at the quality of players that have come through the draft this year (not just for us) and how many have stood up at senior level: heaps. It's no longer as true as it was that players take a few years to be valuable.

In the end, even average players rarely move just for money, more likely it has something to do with a falling out with the club for one reason or another. The whisper is that Roo and Fraser are both unhappy at St Kilda and that Cousins is let down by West Coast. I doubt any of them will move next year (although Fraser might retire). Even if they do move, we aren't likely to want to pay the price - Bomber hates trading players and picks are just too valuable. The only exception would be if we got really close to a Premiership and just needed that extra something to get over the line.
