You didn't listen to the end of the sentence, he also said that Rupert Betheras would be a great addition.

What's Enrico Misso up to these days?

Zeno Tstasaris, maybe?

If he didn't say "locked and loaded" twice before the end of said sentence then it's a no go.

This knowledgeable guy at the pub said we're chasing Mark McGough, apparently he's been killing it somewhere in some bush league somewhere.
He also said it was "locked and loaded". Now I'll go so far as to say this bloke wasn't as trustworthy as Wallet, but he was trustworthy enough to look after my mates beer. Make of that what you will.

We don't need Broughton..
We already have Birchall, Guerra, Savage, Suckling...they already cover what Broughton would bring to the team.

I personally don't see the need to trade in anyone else. With Lake in the side, our list is complete.
Bring on the NAB Draft and Rookie Draft!

I wouldn't say he played the majority of last year in midfield. He played a bit but I would still say he played the majority at half back. I just don't see there being a spot for him, don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind him at Hawthorn but its just not going to be feasible.

Broughton walks into the side.

Interesting perspective.

I have no idea what the bloke plays like, but I've noted his supercoach form, and that's about it. As a rule I tried not to watch fremantle games for the majority of the season.

His name was being bandied about in the media very early, and then it all got quiet. Sort of like Lake, which caused a few journo's to claim that it wouldn't happen...and then BANG!

Only qualification on that would be if Gilham goes I think. In that situation we should draft in another big body as backup in defence. I would prefer to keep Gilham as the backup though.

Can someone explain what trick Broughton has other than being a sweeper? We have more half bank flankers than could be imagined and I can't see how we need another one. His bit part roles as a mid or forward has been ordinary from what I have seen.

Well you obviously haven't been watching enough......he isn't just a sweeper, he's been used and can play as lock down player in the back half, he came 3rd in a B&F playing the majority as a mid, in our side he will be another rotation, the more rotations we have going through the midfield the better. His forward lock down role has taken the scalp of Fletcher among others.......he can definitely play.

The Freo game is normally the best each weekend as it starts at 4.40pm on sunday if you have Fox and lets you bypass the depressing hours of sunday news and 60 minutes when the realisation occurs that the weekend is coming to an end. And by then you are just starting to feel like you have recovered from the night before and crack open a cold one or a bottle of red and settle in.

He had a bit of a down supercoach year - well not as good as the year before when he was a premium defender winning plenty of the ball - as Ross Lyon used him in a lockdown role after the first few games of the season as Dipper has pointed out. It looked like he was going to become a full time mid this season until Ross decided he was needed as a role player. Last year he was very solid up back. It is a feather in Broughton's cap that Ross Lyon gave him some big jobs this year.

He is fairly unassuming but would be best 22 for us without doubt and could be a good time to get him as he starts pushing into the midfield full time. Wouldnt mind getting his teammate Fyfe either but that is a pipedrime.

If Broughton can both play as a defender and in the midfield, he should be looked at. Our midfield rotations seem to mostly come from our midfield group, forwards and bench players. We don't seem to have any midfield rotations from our back six. Having some more flexibility in our back half is a good thing.

If we had Broughton, he and Grant Birchall could rotate through the midfield. A setup like this also gives us good cover should a defender get injured late in the season, as what happened this year with Guerra.

Burgoyne is also another from our back 6 that also has stints on ball.

Dont know if this kid will be available at our pick or if we really need another of his type with rioli, wanganeen, frank and Hill similar players but check out the highlights package!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dont let others know his our secret

He will be a real slider in the draft wright in to our hands, if we really want him, maybe even as a 2 round pick!!

Josh Simpson, East Fremantle, 184cm, 73kg, 9/2/94
Draft range: 15-25Simpson's combination of pace, endurance and skill make him an intriguing prospect. He doesn't get a stack of possessions at this point in his career, but is dangerous around goals and when he's got the ball he's just exciting to watch. He's very evasive, excels in traffic, breaking away from packs, and is a neat disposer of the ball by hand and foot on both sides. Finished equal first in the kicking efficiency test at the combine and equal second in the goalkicking test

His our boy and IMO his much more advanced than wanganeen, frank and Hill and a completely different player to them skill ways more like a young Burgoyne type player!!!!

Intentional spelling of 'Wright'? If so very well done!

Broughton should be no chance to come to Hawthorn unless it becomes a three way trade with Young or Gilham involved - and I would prefer to keep either of those. We would have to give up pick 27 (even if it involves another silly shuffle of picks) and that would mean we would enter the draft when everyone else has already gone home.

We have pick No.27 and then about pick No.60 (can't see Freo accepting that) depending on what sort of compo all clubs get for losing free agents. I would think we would get a 3rd round pick for Murphy which may be about 50-60 but could be later. What is the point of discussing all these possibilities arriving at Hawthorn when there is no one of value to trade out for it or we just waste valuable draft picks.

Our draft picks in the last 3 years include unproven youngsters from the last 2 years - Hallahan, Litherland, Hill, Kelly and Woodward while the picks from 2009 included Williams, Peterson, Hooper (who are all already gone) and the struggling Grimley and Duryea.

If we keep topping up then we risk having a vacuum in the 20-25 range in a few years if players don't develop as hoped.

We should aim to get 4 picks and get some good hard it midfielders. With later picks there will still be those available who don't fit the general draft plans because they may be to short (Sam Mitchell or Alex Woodward types) or lack a yard but have good football brains.

I am still certain our trading started and finished with Lake.

It really depends, if we lose depth in Young and Gilham this sort of player will be needed and TBH I'd have him over both Young and Gilham. If Young goes we will also get a compensation pick that can hopefully be packaged to Fremantle. I'm almost on the verge of throwing Ellis, carrying a player throughout the season and finals that cant get his body right is starting to take its toll on my patience........

Whats your obsession with Duryea....he showed more than enough this year to keep his place on the list, he was named player of the finals for box Hill and finished 7th in the B&F......he's coming along nicely.

The last 3 were all very late picks and we drafted them to fill holes.....they didn't workout so be it.

Thats all good and well, but the fact remains we are in a premiership window, we lost a premiership this year that we should have won.......next year is most likely our last real chance to bring one home before a substantial midfield rebuild is needed....so far we have lost a depth backman in Murphy with the potential to lose both Young and Gilham.....add in the injury of Whitecross we are left with Cheeney as the only senior experienced depth....throw in a few injuries through the year and we are playing and carrying the kids that might not be ready for senior football. Which means it will be hard to rest senior players through out the year. Plan for the worst should be our clubs thinking.

I'm not saying throw away our pick 27, we have to keep that, but we have room to move in adding both senior experience and replenishing the list through the draft..

This kid will be a star!

satiric misspelling

If you go back in the thread i have brought up this kids name before!

I've been keeping my eye on Josh Simpson, and after looking and searching for a suitable young prospects for our clubs future in the draft, this kid has really stood out from the rest and especially after seen the way he moves in his highlights.

Have not seen another kids highlights ever, that posesses this kids skills at such young age!!
If there is any such thing as talent clubs should put this kid at the top of their list for the draft But the haven't . Great speed, wonderful skills and a thirst for the contest top mark.

All i can say is good luck to the club that picks him as i believe that his name will be spoken
about for years to come but that is all JMHO!!

With Starc, Pattinson, Cummings, Siddle, Bollinger, Harris, Hilfenhous and Johnson we have great pace bowler depth, I think we need to trade one on for a opening batsman for this summer.

Seriously once again I'll say it, Broughton will offer us nothing more than what we already have, pointless trade and losing draft picks to pick up a slow average mature player would be going backwards and hurt us in the long term. A big NO from me
Well that's that then. ;)

Move along people, nothing to see here.
