IMO when i look at a player from another club, i don't look at him solely on his talents.....I look at how he can improve our side, what roles can he play..... can he free up Shiels from tagging to having a regular midfield gig, can he free up Birchall Burgoyne and or Suckling to go further up the ground whilst still being a player thats competent in the back half, can he add to the midfield rotations. Can he do a lock down job on a dangerous small forward............. He has the potential to bring a lot to our side.

I get all that but I have watched Broughton closely for the past 3-4 seasons and he is an average footballer, if we can pick him up for nothing then im all for it but he wont come for nothing and I honestly don't believe he will improve us that much and will take a younger developing player's spot. I would much rather try out a woodward, hallahan etc then go and chase Broughton. If we could get him cheap I would but we can't get him cheap.

Completely different.

Gilham has great disposal, is pretty quick and plays taller. Defensively does okay (certainly not brilliant), offensively quite strong for a KPD.
Murphy is a great battler. You close your eyes when he has the footy but when given a task on a small forward he normally shuts them right out of the game.

Murphy is a "lock down a small forward" type with average disposal, Gilham is a "be manhandled by Tall forward" type with good disposal.

Both are good leaders, with Gilham having a thirst for the coaching side of things by all accounts.

I think he wants to go though, especially now that we have Lake and if he couldn't crack a game this year then he would be struggling next year as well even if Lake went down.

We'll surely go with the backline that played about 15 games together this year and got us to a GF, won't we???

You do realise Murphy, Gilham and Lake only played a handfull of games for us this year, right???

But Gilham is a human who is out of contract, barely got a look in all year and has just seen Hawthorn recruit a more established player who plays the same position as he does. Maybe Gilham would be stupid not be walk?

I have also watched Broughton closely....the thing with supercoach is that when you have a certain player in your supercoach side....you tend to watch them quite a lot, He is far from average, Tom Murphy is an average footballer.

Your living in a perfect world, you're acting as if we're not going to have injuries next year or we're not going to rest players, those youngsters are going to get a run either way. Broughton isn't keeping players like Hallahan from not playing, Mitchell Sewell Lewis etc, these are the guys keeping Hallahan from playing, they are the same type of player that stopped Kennedy from playing.....in saying that he hasn't even done a pre season yet let alone hes ready to play AFL.

By the looks of things we're going to end up with a second round pick for Young and two third round picks for (Gilham, Murphy) Thats quite a bit of depth gone, IMO a senior player will be needed..

Not after is casino incident. Fringe players who could cause issues won't get a look in if you listen to what Pres Newbold says about character being of the most extreme importance.

We looked at him last year after he kicked 5 against us in Tassie and nearly cost us the game. The year before we looked at Josh Hill. Not sure a small forward is on the radar anymore since they moved Puopolo up the ground.
