Hawthorn never chased Gillies, that was a rumour the media started and had no more credibility than anything on this forum. He was struggling at Geelong's VFL side this year so there won't be any interest again. His skill level makes him a liability.

Interesting, considering it was Neil Balme who said that the Hawks had expressed an interest

Why do you keep running out that line when it is very clear that we chased Gillies, hard, during last years trade period??
We wanted Tom and Tom wanted us telling the club and his manager that he wanted to be traded to Hawthorn after we had lured him with the promise of more opportunities.

Have no idea on Gillies. Purely out of morbid interest, who would he have replaced had we landed him?

While it may sound counter-intuitive, I tend to believe the more non-geelong players they add to their side the more chance we are of beating them, regardless if those new additions strengthen their team. Am certain our matches with them are won and lost between the ears so the fewer players from the 08GF they have in the side, the less of an effect their 'pact' will have on the result.

Very good point. But they have traded well this year. I just had a go at picking Geelong's best 22 and it is still very very good. I think they will make top four again next year.

Would love a quick midfielder if we can get one cheap.

Josh Simpson, East Fremantle, 184cm, 73kg, 9/2/94
Simpson's combination of pace, endurance and skill make him an intriguing prospect. He doesn't get a stack of possessions at this point in his career, but is dangerous around goals and when he's got the ball he's just exciting to watch. He's very evasive, excels in traffic, breaking away from packs, and is a neat disposer of the ball by hand and foot on both sides. Finished equal first in the kicking efficiency test at the combine and equal second in the goalkicking test.
He has excellent speed and foot skills, I think he is perhaps the most natural footballer in the draft. Everything he does just looks right. In my opinion he could go anywhere from 15-40 come draft day but I just can't overlook his natural talent.

I will continue to bring this kids name up until draft day as i've never ever seen highlights of a someone so young with such natural skills.

This kid is a must IMO if he slides to pick 27!!!
You guys be the judge and tell me if i'm wrong!!!

Watched Josh play for SA last year, and WA this year, and there definitely is a lot of talent there- but i don't see him offering anything that we don't already have on our list in some capacity.

Any chance we can trade Gilham and 27 for a first round pick from GC?
GC don't have many picks at all from what I read the other day. They're not littered with top picks unlike GWS, who have that many picks that anything over pick #20 is likely to be surplus to their recruiting needs anyhow.

Their first pick is 25 and second being at 44, wouldn't mind if we could up grade our second pick to something around that 40 mark. Gilham+60+27 for 25+44 then get gillies in December, work out pretty nicely.

Interesting that the HUN are doing a report card of sorts, on how clubs are going in trade week(s).
I say interesting because they're just guessing as to who could be coming or going. Seems like they're really short for an "mail" on what the Hawks are up to, which is nice.
HAWTHORN
IN: Brian Lake (Western Bulldogs), draft pick 27
OUT: Tom Murphy (Gold Coast), draft picks 21, 41
STILL COMING (MAYBE): -
STILL GOING (MAYBE): Clinton Young
DRAFT PICKS: 27, 60, 78, 96, 114, 132

While he goes okay his downside is that he doesn't get much of the ball. He is a Mullewa lad and his old man and uncles all played local footy and weren't too bad themselves.

To be fair, that was a criticism of Brad Hill. Turns out Hill is a ball magnet at AFL level.

Has speed, has reasonable height/size and kicks off both feet. I liked the way he sums up situations quickly on where he can use his pace and I liked the way he drew the defender and gave off the handball.

Geelong have done well so far.

Watched the footage of Josh Simpson, the kid looks good, very good and shows alot of poise
Also looks quite well built and strong
Silky skills, speed, poise
Worth a punt..... I'm sold
