Many thanks to dannyboy at talkingcarlton:-

Resonances from observing training....

JK at CHF.... He brings the ball down and the crumbers feast (though at one stage JK himself acted as the crumber and scooped the ball up at pace). Axe handle shoulders comes to mind watching this kid. The stronger he gets the more I almost (not at all really) feel sorry for backmen.

Aisake ..... Bloody near cooked as far as I can tell. Soon this dish will be served and we shall feast upon opposition dilemmas! Setanta is training beautifully also. Two great kids, both intense, both wilth excellent vision, good hands, a love of the physical contest - just add experience and watch this two rise.

Tex....(hang on just need to wipe the dribble from my mouth) Think BV got this right when he spoke of how Tex seems to be just balancing himself each and every time he kicks the ball at the moment. Missed nothing by foot all session. The player to watch.

Clokie.... Bloody hell I wanted to hate this kid but you have to love someone who trains with his kind of intensity. Hits 'em hard, runs hard to space, runs hard back to protect... Seems, to me, a natural team player who will bust his gut for the side.

Bower.... Build the defence and the wins will come. Bower runs the lines that makes me often think of Southby. I admit it here and now...I think Bower is my favouritte player! But on the defence, today Waitey also played back and bloody hell he trained well because he is brilliant going forward, covered more ground than the trans-siberian railway today. Maybe a HBF?

Murph.... For those who like such things - murph is our golden shower.

Gibbs...... Love to watch this kid kick a football. Its just a great action , spring loaded legs on the lad.

Carrots... Born free, as free as the wind blows, as free as Carazzo...Just him in the midfield and let him just go for it.

Houla.... Quiet, intense- is he setting himself for a big one or what. Now I have never been a Houla fan but the polast two trianing sessions my eyes kept being drawn to this quiet intense trainer who just seems to be waiting for the curtains to be drawn.

Wiggler.... HFF and watch him hurt teams. Stay fit ya mad bugger!

There was more, blokes like AB and Stevo and Kouta doing their things. Fish's glorious hands, Edwards running, Harts... There is some serious talent there and with time and some licence to create we will hurt teams with our spread of height and pace. For now I am enjoying watching the kids develop.

Speaking of watching, its great to see tommi running around with the lads (God I hope we pick him up next year!),.

Weird report I know but hell others will fill in the details.

I know i keep saying it, but i really think there is something different about our team this year. Something that hasn't been there for the past few seasons.

I really also think that having Braddles and Ratts down there, as well as Dempsey, TD and Crosisca, we will really see a huge difference with our boys. From what i've read and heard, it seems our assistant coaches are not putting up with anythign but the best - no second-best chances at training - they do it again and again until they get it right.

I'm so excited. Another development year, yes. However this development year will see us with at least 7-9 wins. At least!:)

100% agree. This list may be very raw and inexperienced, but it has a bucketload of height, pace, talent, massive X-factor and a touch of attitude. With zero expectations (thanks to the anti-Carlton media usuals) anything can happen. I'm predicting some sharp highs and lows in 2007, a bit of a roller-coaster, as this talented young group gain experience and develop confidence. Can't wait till season 2007. :)

Actually parrot i think you'd said something that could be a good thing for us

the fact that we have just had so much bad press lately - it means we can surprise people, because everyone else is expecting nothing from us.

It's good - if we had great press talking up all our boys, i'd be worried that they couldn't live up to it, if that makes sense.

This way, we have no-one to prove right and there are no expectations on the kids.

Good signs all round.

I just got my flyer in the mail letting me know about the Carlton meet'n'greet function. :) Hopefully tomorrow the membership will arrive :)

Maybe you should just take the first 10 picks next year, that might stop all you supporters still complaining when you cheated and lost your draft picks.

Many thanks to Bluesgirl at csc for this report:-

Flooded with supporters old, young and the famous. Wayne Johnston was there again watching Tomi and Jo Silvagni bought along Jack, Ben and Tom who helped out during the session. She's very determined to keep them blues fans.

People who didnt train at all were Eddie Betts and Ross Young. Eddie has injured his right ankle, not to sure about Ross.
Fev and Flint were together the whole session running laps and doing a few handball drills.
Whitnall, McLaren and Raso still trained away ( makes you wonder when Whitnnall and McLaren will be back with the main group ) They did a bit of running and then kicking drills. Although McLaren and Whitnall joined in for the intra club match but thats about it.
Benjamin started running which is good.

The best thing i saw today was when Brett Ratten huddled the team together and he was teaching them HOW TO TACKLE! One player had the ball and the other had to tackle them. Aisake took down wiggo pretty hard. Watchign Murphy tackle Kouta was an amazing site.

There was a match played for about half an hour. And of course Libba had to join in. A few people might enjoy this bit... Waite played as a backman. Whitnall played on McLaren for obvious reason, Walker on Libba, Aisake on Hampson. Most targets got hit and most shots on goal were scored.

Next the team was split into 2 groups. Braddles called over Jack and Ben to come and help out... and i must say for Jacks age he can certainly kick. Anyway a few of the players had the bags you put over your shoulder and they had to hit the boys without them while they tried and score a goal.

The final thing they did was running. And that was pretty much it. As they were coming in there were plenty of kids who wanted autographs, Murph had left his shoes on teh ground so he had free hands, so Gibbs went and got his shoes and threw them away. Great compition them 2 have.

Hartlett asked me how they all trained and i saw Walks has been training the best and he agreed and said he hates going up againt him because his so strong.

Plenty of pictures which i will put on very soon.

thanks to timetodeliver2004 for this report:-

Great report dannyboy. Was also down there this morning. The session seemed to focus more on the fitness aspect of things with a few skill sessions brought in. Some familiar training drills were revisited - tackling to pin the arms and handballing under pressure.

The end to end drill was undertaken again - however, it was more like a mini intra-club than previous drills. Interesting to note that McLaren and Whitnall both took part in this, whereas they had been sitting out most other aspects of the session. Dannyboy's observations are spot on. Tex stood out again for his delivery by foot and TD could be heard when he was running down the wing yelling "get balanced, get balanced" - which he did perfectly and delivered it lace out.

Waite played off the half-back line manning up on Fish and seemed like a perfect fit as the rebounding defender. The only question mark would be his accountability and defensive side of the game - though didnt see any deficiencies in that today. The running he did up and down the wings and delivering it into the forward line is something we have to capitalise on, whether this means he plays off a half-back flank on a wing or on a forward flank pushing up onto the wing. This should be his main role and only be dropping deep into the forward line occasionally maybe for a rest for 5 minutes a quarter.

Ill be back with more of a report in a little while....
'
Sorry about that guys - back for the training report part II. As far as injury concerns go, Fev still didnt participate in full training. Not sure what his injury is. Clint Benjamin did a little bit of jogging around the boundary line and left early and came back with his quad strapped with ice. The other injury was Eddie Betts, who came back with his foot strapped with ice. Talked to him and he said it was just a minor ankle sprain and it should be fine by tomorrow.

The guys participated in one final training drill that involved 3 guys with tackling bags providing pressure and then a group of 4 stationed about 50 metres out. The ball was kicked along the ground to the group of 4 who then had to work the ball around to have a clear shot on goal (sorry if that sounds confusing!). The one guy who stood out for me in this drill, who hadn't stood out before, was Grigg. Seems to have clean disposal by hand and foot and a good turn of pace. Looks a very likely prospect.

At other points during the session, some players were singled out for some marking practice. Players to do this were Jacobs, JK and possibly Hampson if i remember correctly. JK has such a good pair of hands and is so mobile, he's such a scary prospect. Every training sesion I see him do makes me very excited. Jacobs also seems like a very good rookie choice and Hampson (who has strapping on one of this thumbs) impressed me today with his mobility and skills. Our big men are certainly going to be a force in years to come.

Three other things of note. Firstly, the older guys seem to be really enjoying their footy and the injection of youth into the club. Was noticeable how much Kouta, Lappin, Stevens were enjoying themselves and joking around with the younger guys. Secondly, Denis was a far more active participant in training today - taking charge of the match simulation. First time I've really seen him give any sort of instructions. Thirdly, gotta give some major credit to Jacko. This guy is just an example of how to prepare - his training efforts are first rate. In the tackling drill, he managed to escape from the tackles of numerous opponents just by his speed and sidestep. Would have to be a definite promotion next year at the latest.

sorry.
just a query. how much input does pagan have at training? is he a hands on coach or do ratts, bradles and co do most of the work?

He doesn't do anything except stand there and observe. Terry Daniher is the most vocal, telling the boys what to do. Ratts is involved a fair bit too from what I saw on Friday.

Maybe you should just take the first 10 picks next year, that might stop all you supporters still complaining when you cheated and lost your draft picks.

I wouldn't talk to soon, your being investigated right now and it does not look good for your future prospects come draft time. HAha:D

Maybe when you win a flag without concessions we could come and troll on your board. It should only take about tens years or so if you're lucky, salary cap penalties and the Gold Coast Roos nothwithstanding . :)

thanks. i guess when you have ex-players who have so much experience and knowledge about differant things, all you could do is let them do their thing and relax at this stage of the season.

Many many thanks again to Bluesgirl over at csc for these pics. She has done a great job with reports and pics over the past few months, i'll miss reading her stuff when she goes back to her committments.

AWG-

I love your passion and enthusiasm....Go get 'em girl!

I can not wait to see this heartache become a thing of the past....

The pleasure machine will start to come to fruition.....

We will remember, even shed a tear about our stolen glories. But we will strike with a vengence seen oh so long ago....

We will once again be loathed for the right reasons.....Never pittied always hated and a force....

A young force. That will never EVER again hit depths of despair....

Enjoy it....

All of it....

And let the detractors know..... Oh so subtlely!

Hey guys - was there in attendance at training today and pretty much support what the other guys have said about training. Just a few interesting points to let you know about

1. There was a little niggle between Tex and Jacko today during the match simulation game. Nothing major but it's good to see that there taking it really seriously and now there is real competition for positions.

2. Jo Silvagni was there today as mentioned with her boys. Crystal clear she stated that "It doesn’t matter that Stephen is at St.Kilda were Carlton supporters not St.Kilda supporters". Gotta love the mother influence don’t you. LOL

3. I understand that Hampson has only been playing the game for 2-
3years but his kicking really needs to be improved on the run. Lots of work required there but I have no doubt about his rucking and marking ability.

4. Jacobs and Kennedy's marking abilities above the head. Amazingly clean hands. Jacobs I feel will become a top class ruckman- good skills and tap work. ???? on his endurance capabilities but that can be worked on. Watch this space.

5. Murphy and Gibbs will no doubt be the most potent on ball combination in years to come. Both very different players yet so classy and well skilled. Fev's gonna have a pick nick for the rest of his career with these 2 streaming down the ground kicking it to him on the lead. About Gibbs there were ?'s on his pace prior to him being drafted, but Kevin Sheehan made the comments that he "hardly ever gets tackled", "always seems to have time on his hands", and "lays plenty of tackles himself". Now for those of you who have been fortunate enough to watch him play or train this is so true. This kid can be anything.

6. All the boys look physically bigger. whether that translates into being more physical on the footy field is a different story but it’s a good sign.

7. Really looking forward to seeing how Jordan Russell's year pans out. Looks a million bucks on the training track (but so does most players). Hopefully this is shown on the playing field.

8. Looking a Waitey at CHB today real opened the eyes a bit today. Good to see they might try a few things this year. There a few things that need to happen before Waitey becomes a full time CHB
1. JK's progression. Therefore still having 3 go-to forwards (Fev, JK, & Fish with Wiggo, Edwards running around).
2. Accountability. Not to say that he doesn’t have it, just that his whole AFL career his had some1 chasing him, therefore a total restructure with his mind set.

There you go. Is there a confirmation on the intra practice match yet???

All the best.

Go Blues.

Thanks Shmurf!!!!

:thumbsu:
Yep, i love Jo Silvagni :)

i think Hampson, coming from a soccer background, will adjust a lot quicker than those from a BBall background, because he is used to running and kicking a ball, albiet a round ball, on the run. He'll get it right, plenty of time for him to learn the oval ball techniques.

Thanks for the training reports everyone....really gets the juices flowing and looking forward to the new season!

If JK can hold down CHF this year waitey should be played on a back flank or even CHB...was suprised Pagan didnt try him there but i am guessing it was due to injury last year...would love to see him line up there in the NAB cup!

Would give us fantastic run.... Satanta and Waite accross the half back line...DROOL DROOL
