Re: Training 5.13.07

Haha, sorry for the delay, the shops at west lakes were calling :D

The boys were a little lat out this morning, only a couple of minutes, and when they came out they started by having a kick-to-kick standing about 20m apart. Hentschel was going for a light jog and I believe so was Sellar. The main group then went for a jog and completed their stretches.

The next drill was sort of like a game stimulation except there were no teams and a couple of footballs were working their way around. After about 10 or so minutes, they would stop and stretch, before resuming the same drill and stopping again to do push ups, then again one more time before they completely stopped.

I couldn't see who was on the bikes, they were on the other side of the oval today, but I'm pretty sure Gill, Basset and Cook were on them again with a couple of other players. Jason Porplyzia and Luke Jericho partook in the whole session today with the main group and James Sellar was jogging around for a bit too :thumbsu: Kris Massie was restricted to jogging and Taylor Walker and Patrick Dangerfield both have their right thigh strapped. They were working together with a trainer doing some punching work and sit ups, not for the whole session though.

The next drill involved six players with two in the middle in white tops. The four other would stand at each point of a square and the aim was to keep the ball away from the two in the middle by kicking. Otten was over near us, he seems pretty confident around his team mates, was encouraging them etc. He also received a couple of kicking pointers from Ben Hart. Bryce Campbell was also in this group. He did well, as most of them did, and generally everyone's skills were up on Monday's :thumbsu:

Following this, Neil Craig ran through a drill which consisted of about three groups across the oval. As the ball moved forwards, a player from a group would run out and make a lead, a couple of balls were going at a time so it was generally quite faced paced but worked well. At on point Brad Moran was on Scott Stevens down one end. The drill was then modified a little before continuing for sometime. After this, Bernie Vince was getting his back rubbed but he didn't seem too serious.

Players were then split up into bunces of twenty, making two teams of ten for each group. Confined to a rectangle, one team would have to move a tennis ball from their end to the other end and into the box. They would move the tennis ball just by throwing it.

Next was their game style drill, as they did on Monday, although minus the rotations off. It was white v blue and three players wearing fluoro tops. Down one forward end Bernie Vince, Ken McGregor, Brett Burton and Kurt Tippett (who joined in after completing some jogging) made up the forward line. At this point Trent Hentschel started working with two trainers. At first, he'd make a lead on his own. I thought he looked slow and would not survive at AFL level if that was all his pace, but when pitted against another trainer making a lead, his speed improved and his agility is pretty good :thumbsu:

The last drill involved all the players working in the one fifty metre arch, with one group of mainly defenders working the goal square and the rest making up three groups around the left pocket. As three players would run forward moving the ball between them, two or so defenders would try and stop them, before they passed to a defender in the square.

Overall, their skills were much better than Monday :thumbsu: and at the beginning it was lovely to have Neil Craig come up to us and say hello and have a bit of a chat :) I'll have some pics coming soon.

Re: Training 5.13.07

Nice crow girl thnx.

Spewing that Dangerfield & Walker are injured. Just a joke really.
Hope all our players are taking notes from VB etc.

Btw is Mcleod training? Also when you say that they're doing jogging drills, is it just a few laps or more getting a tons of run into their legs?

I mentioned in another thread that Judd had a stopwatch and all and was doing 12x 400mtr jogs around the boundry @ carlton training with a 1minute break after each 400, pretty crazy imo.

Mcleod is training, he looks in excellent shape :thumbsu:

Kris Massie was jogging around for a bit, nothing extensive. Sellar also just went around the oval a number of times. It's pretty basic compared to Chris Judd, they wouldn't be jogging for the whole session though, I guessed they stopped on the other side of the oval to do some handball drills or maybe go on the bikes.

I hope this means Stevens could be aiming for a bit more time in the forward lines.

How is Hentschel going? When is he expected to return?

Click here for a quick video I took of him working with the trainer this morning, quality doesn't come up that great on youtube, but its pretty good :thumbsu: I believe he is due back around February.

Huge thanks again, Crow*Girl. :thumbsu:

How was the JT concert??? ;)

Anyway, do you have any pics/footage of my man Jimmy??

Or any of the new draftees (in particular Cook, Jacky, Dangers??).

Re: Training 5.13.07

You'd think thats what he could be aiming for, although later on he was a defence match up to Brett Burton.

I do expect him to continue his role in defence, but would still love to see him sneaking forward a lot more considering:
1) He has been very successful there
2) The forward line is very much in a transitional stage - although it would be great to see Tippett, Sellar & Walker line up in round 1, it isn't going to happen
3) It may be harder for him to keep his spot in defence: Rutten, Bock, Bassett, Moran, Gallman & Kite - although that pressure is a good thing

Great to see Rowdy back out there after shattering his leg....

Heres hoping he can make an impact again!! :thumbsu:

It's hard to keep up to date with the Crows living here in New York, but I think I'm speaking on behalf of every crow supporter living overseas, when I say this is greatly appreciated!! Keep up the good work!!!:D:D
