Mega Thread TRAINING REPORTS

couldhavebeen I feel bloody awful about the way I have spoken to you and how some people have ridiculed you.

I honestly do.:(

I just think that you get the way the WAFL works mixed up with the way the AFL operates.

You simply can't can't bring a kid, and Michie is a kid, to play against a battle hardened veteran like Swan, in the same way that you promote some kid from the WAFL juniors or twos to the seniors, as part of their learning curve. Yes, by all means call for his selection based on his form, but don't attach it with a ridiculous call like that.

You've been guilty, (naive?), of calling for this on numerous occasions, and on one occasion you got it right with Tanner Smith. And now you seem to think that it is the norm.

It isn't mate.

That was brought about through selection desperation. McPharlin flew to Tasmania because the medicos believed that he was going to be fit to play. No other reason. Tanner was back up.

And Tanner, despite his best efforts, got pretty much towelled up. That's why he's back in the twos again.

I am sorry to suck your Grandmothers eggs, but I do feel for you.

Take it easy mate.

Read a little more, digest it and think about it.

There are some very knowledgable and experienced posters on this site. And I, in no way, count myself amongst them.

Chill.

Peace.

We arent in the development phase at the moment.
No need to fast track players development rushing them into the team and playing them ahead of experienced guys.

We are setting up for an attack on the flag.
When we have injuries or suspensions, these youngsters will get their opportunities.
Until then they need to continue to develop their game in WAFL and play so damn well that it forces a current best 22 guy out who is struggling.

Now against some of the bottom of the ladder teams, maybe then its time to think about throwing some young guys into the team to help their development and give them a small taste to keep them focused.
Risky but could be beneficial to player/players getting rested plus the benefits to the guy coming in.

We play Melbourne in round 9.
I would be loooking at playing Mitchie and Simpson.
Mitchie to reward form and effort in WAFL.
Simpson possibly just as sub to keep him interested and give him a small taste, as there is a few rumours he isnt coping with all the crap that AFL players have to do these days.

Peace accepted
In regard to Viv Mitchie a number of posters have stated that he is ready to play AFL and I agree

My question has been really when and against whom will he play

Yes he's a kid but he has been working his butt off to prove that he can play the game at the highest level against the best of those going around .

Yes Collingwood have one of the best midfield combinations in the comp but so do Gelong ,Sydney, Hawthorn and Essendon .

If Hill isn't available we will have 2 of our best Mids not available for this game and he is the form inside mid player in the WAFL so at what stage do you play him .

the 2 players we have played so far this season that he is competing for a position in the team for are Crozier and Sutcliffe .

Both are capable players and deserve consideration .

Sutcliffe has found it difficult to run out a whole game and Crozier is predominantly a HFF.

Mitchie is an inside Mid with a big body and is now able to run out for a whole game in the WAFL
but he would struggle to run out an AFL game IMO but as a sub or impact player he's of great value
to the team also the ground is going to be soft under foot and heavy going so it's going to be a hard
slog between him and Deboer we can really have a contest and added pressure on the ball.
Given all that I have said the question still remains if not Swan then Who????
Other have posted that we need to play experienced players so again WHO is the experienced mid
they would play given the players available.

Its not a Dumb question and I'm not asking my grandmother how to suck eggs.:p:p

Some of us turned up at Fremantle today but training apparently was at Subiaco so no report from us. Good to catch up with Salim, Harry Reems and the Irishman though. Interesting general discussion.

Besides kicking a couple of goals, one thing I thought Croz did really well was to be a very good link in that rebound/slingshot/whatever you want to call it out of defense on quite a few occasions.

When guys like MDB, Barlow or Balla are one of those links (especially one of the links in the middle) I've been afraid to watch. Balla seems a better kick when he's going inside 50, but has been a shocker when kicking to targets outside the F50.

But when Croz has been the link he's run to the right spot, taken the mark with a single grab, spotted the next target and either nailed them or put it to their advantage. The Pies will apply a hell of a lot more pressure than GC, but we looked a lot more fluent on the rebound when Croz was getting involved.

He does need to keep building his level of involvement, but I saw him running back to help rebound from the backline quiet a few times in the Peel/Claremont game (and didn't see him miss a target), and saw him linking in with the rebound against GC (and again, didn't see him miss a target).

Hopefully he gets a start. I think it'd be worthwhile to have both him and MDB available to play up forward (not necessarily at the same time though), and starting Croz gives us the advantage of having that for the whole game.

If Hill comes in there'll be some headaches at the selection table, because none of the guys that played last week really deserve to be dropped... PearceD and MDB were amongst our worst, but they both have important roles.

If Hill is available, then I'd have Hill in, Croz sub, Sutty WAFL. If he's not I'd have Croz starting again, and Sutty as the sub. We'll need Sutty's run at Subi, and can probably use Michie's better contested game against Sydney. Tell Michie that he's an emergency for this game, and if he kills it in the WAFL then the sub spot is his next week.

Sorry folks, closed session training at Subi today.

So we held a panel show at Freo Oval instead.

In the audience were two seagulls and an old chip packet.

Great discussions though.

Shoulda come down. Parked in Queensgate and could see no players out there so I just left.

Excellent post strobe00. Agree completely on Crozier, its one thing I notice when I watched the game again, his effective play in transition.
Ross commented on PR on Monday night he was pleased with Croz's game. He should keep his spot on that outing.

You've basically said that sutty, croz and Viv all struggle to run out a game. Screams sub to me. Either starting and being subbed off or the other way around. Not going head to head

Exactly youve got it in one .
They can play till they have nothing left and can be subbed or be the sub.
Eighther way they can contribute and we get to see them perform on the big stage with the best
and they get a real good look at where they are at in their development.
Head to head , run with, compete against or what ever you want to call it I don't care but they can and will play their part.

Good to hear. Haven't heard the interview yet. Hope he does keep his spot.

He's shown a bit so far but hasn't really gone crazy yet. Hopefully he'll do that against the mob he used to barrack for. Haven't seen his high marking this year, so maybe this is the game that he'll take a screamer standing on top of Shaw's head?

Good post. Maybe Balla is better kicking into the fifty as it's into reducing space. It seems odd that his kicking would differ anywhere on the ground for any reason other than pressure from an opponent though. But all in all i though he was a bit of a gun playing up the ground last year. Maybe just a bit down on form and nothing else?

Im a huge MDB fan and am quite confident with both his field and goal kicking these days. Couldn't buy a goal when he started but had a good year last year. around the ground i haven't noticed any shockers that put him behind anyone else. (future captain)

I would say hill not in this week, based on a seagul from Subiaco Oval.

Is this the first time this year with a closed session?

May I just make this point Gelong Blooded a young guy last night in a game that was for top of the ladder .
Yes he was a sub, Yes its was a Friday night block buster in front of 50,000 fans but he came on and played out the game from the middle of the 1st quarter
He got to experience football at the highest level against quality footballers and did his job for the team.
