It'd be nice if weid got it and beat some young first year Carlton player

"It's not fair, Weideman has been in the system for three years"

Poor buggers would have gotten soggy training today.

In other team news, Paddy McCartin is out with some kind of mid foot sprain until after Christmas - or on modified whatever at least. Doesn’t sound very serious - that kid can’t take a trick though. His injury history has been very tough.

For my part I will feel so much better once Viney is back. That foot thing is a worry.

It is. I was very pissed off with him for returning so soon after hurting it. I just knew he was too stupid to look after it. Thought he was bulletproof. I hope he hasn't Trengroved it.

Players should be held accountable, but almost every player wants to come straight back in. I more frustrated with the club and their management than i am with Viney himself

Yeah, they are all accountable, but when the doctors ask him, "how does it feel? Does it hurt?", you just know he's going to lie his arse off to play...

I think he’ll be ok but I agree with you he was an idiot for coming back so early. Don’t get me wrong I love him to death and his game against the Eagles in Perth was my favourite game from a MFC player ever, but he needs to be a little smarter with this stuff.

No doubt he was foolish with his self management, and very clearly pushed himself too hard too soon ... but you can probably forgive him for thinking he'd be fine, given his miraculous recovery from his broken hand last year, and the faster than normal comeback from a broken leg the year before. Hopefully he's a bit smarter from here on in.

Broken leg and Arm are different to the foot bones. Trenners never got a second chance. Nor did Trent Croad or Matthew Egan. Too many players careers ended with that injury it's now much worse than an ACL which most blokes seem to be able to get back to their best from

I never said anything of the sort, merely that he probably had a touch of "invincible-itis" after some miraculous recovery times with previous injuries.

You're spot on, foot injuries aren't getting the "credit" they deserve for being career enders atm. Of course, other players are getting them, and getting them fixed as well, so we'll just wait and see with JV, no one seems to be overly concerned at this point.

Wasn't a Crack at you just pointing out Vineys stupidity. The foot injuries need to be treated like tendon injuries. Absolutely no risk at all

Unfortunately he strikes me as the kind of guy who puts the team before his own health and can't be trusted to make sensible decisions about whether he is fit to play or not. Is amazing in game because he doesn't think twice, just throws everything into winning, but off the field needs to be more analytical about whether going into a game at half strength is better or worse for the team.

Viney will learn from this, no doubt he pushed himself to hard to get back. His original injury had healed but other areas in his foot over compensated and that’s what caused the stress. What makes these injuries so difficult is the lack of blood flow to the area. Hence why trenners had suffered a setback, vanders has almost been MIA for two years.

Egan isn’t a good comparison he was rediculous in his attempt to come back for the GF.

beast mode is the best kind of mode
As long as it's the real beast mode, not that ducking shit that Brisbane fans have dubbed beast mode

Bit of a story about Hogan here:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-12-04/-hogan-in-super-nick-and-set-for-beast-mode

Sounds good, but I'd prefer him to be working on leading patterns to get separation from defenders, rather than wrestling with them and pushing off.

They want him to wrestle the strongest but then drop weight again coming back...

Either build him up massive so he can wrestle or ban it and ask nick riewoldt to spend time teaching him how to lead around the ground

I noticed that disparity.

Maybe what they are hoping is for him to build skill in fending off then sort of dashing away, Riewoldt style, to find space for a lead??? I don't even know if that is possible - but he isn't big and strong enough to continually attempt to beat the biggest defenders, and if he builds that then he will lose mobility.

I like him up the ground, putting work into his movement and creating leads. He has a good reputation from coaches about his work rate and work off the ball so that would be the go. Even roll him through the middle, Roughead style from time to time would work for me. He's a decent field kick too, so can potentially provide so much more than a stay-at-home forward (if that position really still exists and has value in the way the game is played in the last few years)

He doesn't need to be built like a beast to play like one. I suspect they'll work on further strengthening his core which will make him better able to push off the big defenders.
