I didnt realise until yesterday that Marlon King was at Sheffield United last season, convicted of sexual assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, numerous other offences including theft and drink driving, two arrests in the months before signing for dangerous driving that caused injury. One of which he is currently serving 18 months for.

But no 130k petitions, no threats to withdraw names from stands, no celebrity supporter outrage, no politicians getting involved.

I'm a bit fascinated by this, is it just the lack of contrition? He maintains his innocence and a forced apology doesnt really mean anything in my book.

When then dust is settled on this I think the FA need to set some clear guidelines.
Whether he thinks he's guilty or not, Evans now has two options.
  1. Be satisfied that he's done nothing wrong, and live out his days on the dole until he can leave the country (by which time he'll be too far out of the game to play).
  2. Apologise publicly, wait for the dust to settle and hope a lower league side takes a punt next year.

Doesnt say much for a system of justice if you need to choose between maintaining your innocence or employment.

Not at all. I feel sorry for him, to be honest. As the comment says, he's either a free man or he isn't.

I dont know why everyone thinks 30m is way overs for Bony!! Leading the Prem in goals for 2014, hes an absolute beast and hes proven!!
I think 25m but its not that far off!!
It's a bit much for a third choice striker, assuming he's fighting for second place with Dzeko and Jovetic.

i highly doubt he'll be fighting with jojo for very long. wouldn't be surprised to see him sold soon.

bony is a better player than dzeko. it might not happen for him right away at the club and he may get fewer chances to begin with but i believe he'll be starting consistently soon enough. if he links well with kun then it'll be goals galore

Evans sentence has not been completed yet. He is on probation. I will never feel sorry for a convicted rapist. What happened is rape as well.

His supporters do him no help. His victim has had to change her ID 5 times and has not seen her father in over 12 months for her own safety.

How is that his fault?

Being convicted of something doesn't mean that he isn't innocent.

I don't believe for a second that shes been unable to see her family for 12 months.

No doubt though that it has had a big impact on her post the trial, and anyone found responsible for harassment or anything like that should be charged and punished (I think some have).

If Evans was found to have anything to do with it he should finish his sentence in jail.

But thats stuff for the courts to decide, when media, celebrities and twitter petitions start to determine peoples rights after leaving prison society has a problem IMO.

I wouldnt say I feel sorry for him but he must be wondering how he's supposed to get on with his life.

180k a week for Bony???

I doubt it. Not sure any of our players are on that much any more. Maybe Yaya.

At a guess I wouldn't think he'd be on more than £100k basic with maybe £20-30k with bonuses.

I agree with your post moomba and have a couple of comments to make on this.

Firstly, anyone who is convicted of rape should be imprisoned for far longer.

Secondly, after someone has served their sentence they should be able to return to the workforce in relative peace with few exceptions.

Thirdly, if he truly believes he's innocent and has been wronged, who am i to argue with him.

Shedloads of people are wrongly convicted and let off for crimes.

stuff about bony having a medical at bridgewater, which i feel might be difficult presuming he's in africa?

Ivory Coast training camp is conveniently in Abu Dhabi (I think), so if he isn't getting one in the UK he may have a chance to have a medical in the Middle East.

We might have one or two contacts over there. ;)
