So 4 examples. Maybe its not as prevalent as you think.

Like I said, it's easy to tap someone up and not be in breach of the rules.

Berbatov was an illegal approach, Carrick from memory wasnt (although still morally wrong IMO).
4 examples that spring to mind. It's very prevalent. Morally wrong? Wtf are u on about.

Pfft Tapping up depends entirely on which club you are

Xavi: “He is a football player with Barça DNA”

Lionel Messi: Cesc has a place for Arsenal in his heart, but he has Barcelona in his blood. He will want to win win the biggest prizes in football, and I expect him to do that at Barcelona. I don’t exactly know when that will be, but I expect him to be my Barcelona team-mate again at some point.”

Txiki Begiristain: If Barcelona considers it necessary for the team, [we will] go after him...

Xavi:Two years ago, I said Cesc would end up playing for Barcelona, and now it is clearer than ever. He has also expressed publicly that he wants to come to Barcelona and when a player wants to move to some place he ends up going. It is clear that Cesc will come to Barcelona.”

Joan Laporta: Arsenal will end up giving in, but I don’t know when that will be.”

Sandro Rosell “The whole world knows he wants to come and that we want to sign him.

Gerard Piqué “Cesc will one day sign for Barça.”

My Favourite Carles Puyol: “I think Arsenal need to respect his class and show the same class by giving the guy who has given so much to them the move that he and his family want. [...] He is the future of Barcelona and Arsenal can’t do anything to stop that. I have just spent six weeks with him and there is only one club he wants to be at

Toni Freixa: “Arsenal don’t want to sit down and negotiate with us. It’s not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barça

Xavi: I would like Cesc to come to Barca and he has also said that he wants to.”

David Villa: As a player, everybody knows what Barcelona brings [for players]. And as a person, [Fabregas] deserves to return to Barcelona.

Pepe Reina: “I am convinced Cesc will join us. Arsenal are tourist class. Barcelona are in business class and any player would want to join us.”

Estanislau Fors i Garcia – the mayor of Catalan town Arenys de Mar where Cesc Fabregas grew up “We want him to come right away, he is experiencing a kidnapping. If the English are so honourable they should behave properly. [Arsene Wenger] has to stop clowning around because it’s disorienting for all of us.”

4 examples over how many years. Stam must have been 10 years ago at least.

As for morally wrong I believe that if you want to recruit a player you should contact their club and get permission to speak to them. If they don't give you permission thats tough, wait until they are out of contract.

No planted media stories reporting your interest, no "t'riffic player" comments, no wining and dining agents/parents.

Not just the illegal stuff, but a lot of the legal stuff is wrong IMO.

Why do Bayern always sell their players for peanuts? Look at overrated English players proven a lot less than someone like Shaqiri going for double his price...

Why would you pay big money for someone that been given plenty of chances for Bayern, but just doesn't take advantage of them and sees himself as better than he actually is?

Not sure what the rules are about players tapping up (a la Cesc above). Always used to be a lot of stories about players from certain clubs being used to approach young England players on international duty.

If it is illegal, Aguero might be in trouble after favouriting this, ha ha.

I just found it interesting as I thought Lamps was a NYC player on loan, but apparently not. I didn't know about the CFG.
People in England seem a bit desperate to be outraged over the Lampard deal, but they have no grounds to be upset. I've heard it all in the past 6 months, FFP dodge, tapping up (like that would have worked) and now 3rd party offences.

People in USA, yeah absolutely understand why they are pissed off.

Alright mate. now i'm at work it's easier to have a look. check out the below:

The last two are particularly interesting.

If that's your stance on morally wrong, that's cool but it also means that most transfers would have to be classed as morally wrong.

Like I said, its very easy to tap up legally.

Only the stupid ones get caught breaking the rules. In the case of Berbatov it cost United over £1m (can't remember the exact amount).

Yeah, this deal has seemed to have upset a few. I don't think there's anything dodgy going on and my not that fussed with Lamps playing at City (we have to keep moving forward).

Just found it interesting that he wasn't owned and loaned by NYC, didnt know about CFG.

Could CFG buy Messi and loan him to MC?

I wouldnt have thought so, and even if it was allowed I doubt UEFA would let us not put it on our FFP books.

Don't understand the whole facade with Lampard. Why not from the start say he'd signed for City? Why go through the whole parade of him being a NYCFC player (which he isn't) being loaned to City?

It's just a massive **** up which has left a sour taste in the mouths of NYCFC fans who now don't trust their club or the MLS, before their team plays a single minute.

Because he plays for one, if not the best team in the world and he played well for Switzerland in world cup. Moratta from Real went to Juventus for more and the only reason he cost that much is because of the club he came from.

He is a NYCFC player on a season long loan.

NYCFC hasn't even played a competitive game yet, so Lampard hasn't missed anything yet. Obviously he will but it will only be minimal considering.

Apparently he's not an NYC FC player, he's owned and loaned by CFG.

Apparently his agent has said he didnt sign with NYCFC as they werent a legal entity at the time. So he signed with CFG with the intention of being a NY player. Also said that he will join NY in July.

Will you explain FFP to me in the PM I sent you?

It's pretty simple. If you're a big club that has money to put yourself in a position to break the rules, the rules don't apply to you. If you're a small club without the financial backing to break the rules the rules, therefore, apply to you.

Who writes for some of these papers in the UK. The transfer gossip is nearly as bad as a Richard Wilkins celebrity gossip segment sometimes.

The same rules apply to everyone who is in European competition.
