I understand your point but I don’t think it really matters if it’s one or two teams they’re chasing. Liverpool haven’t gotten as close as they are because City dropped off, or because they’ve got the better of them head to head, they’re actually worse of this season. Last season City and Liverpool cancelled each other out across the two fixtures, and this season city are three points better off.

Liverpool closed the gap by becoming so much better than the majority of the league, that even on their off days when they don’t play their best, they’re still good enough to win. That’s what Tottenham need to aim for.
