My hypothetical was on a free for next season on a 2 year deal to be a backup for VVD on the left. Then have Gomez/Lovren/Matip on the right.

He probably would, but Pep is quite happy to sacrifice in defence for someone good on the ball.

Klopp's side (this season) is built on defensive solidity though. He doesn't offer that in a 4. In a 3 though he is very effective, although you'd have Van Dyke playing that central role.

Umm, he's been defensively solid this season. Only times he's been 'shame'd is when he's had to come out and fill Alonsos hole at LB when he doesn't track back(Spurs a couple of times and United). Not really his fault.

I guess unless you watch us regularly you wouldn't notice.

Yep and we are pretty solid done back, only let in 17 goals like City.

I was about to post that I think he is just like Lovren - both of them, in 9 out of 10 games, are superb.

But that 1 in 10 shit game is always coming where they will cost you.

I despise Lovren, wish he would leave the club - Luiz is one of my favourite non-Liverpool players but I wouldn't want him near Liverpool.

When City are season-after-season setting records and changing the game, you can't afford to run the gauntlet with blokes like Lovren and Luiz in my opinion, the sooner Gomez comes back and displaces Lovren the better, he's a ticking time bomb (just like Luiz).

This. Luiz just has too many mistakes in him and you cant afford those at the top level.
