at some point they become open ended though, dont they ?

They do, for Olympic Lifting Men is > 109kg and Women is > 87kg. I don't know enough to know whether due to the acceleration and range of motion required whether there's a point at which too much size (height or weight) starts to work against you.

Powerlifting is less cleanly regulated, but Powerlifting Australia has a > 120kg category and some I saw when I looked quickly had > 140kg as a category.

Strongman competitors regularly weigh > 150kg

Why?

You’ve stated in this thread transgenderism is a mental illness.

How does that make me transphobic? A phobia is a fear. I don't fear transpeople.

I certainly wouldn't have spent the majority of my clubbing life in Melbourne at The Market if I was.

Also I never used the term illness.

But back on topic.

Please let's dispense with this idea that "transphobia" and "homophobia" are limited to "fear". It includes aversion, disgust and so on.

noun: phobia; plural noun: phobias
  1. an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
"she suffered from a phobia about birds"

"Transphobia describes someone who has hate, fear, or disgust for transgender people or anyone who does not fit into the male/female gender binary."

Transphobia is a collection of ideas and phenomena that encompass a range of negative attitudes, feelings, or actions towards transgender people or transness in general. Transphobia can include fear, aversion, hatred, violence or anger towards people who do not conform to social gender expectations.[1][2]

Thanks for further confirming that I'm not transphobic.

Easiest way to sort this out is to speak plainly. Do you believe transgender people have the right to live out their lives as the gender they wish themselves to be, regardless of biology? And should their official identification/s be altered to reflect their wishes?

I have always found it weird that they are called "phobias" to be honest. I mean blokes who hang shit on gay people probably aren't actually scared of them, just don't like them because of whatever.

I think it's the common mis-use of "phobia", leaving out the "aversion or disgust" part and equating it only with "fear". "Phobia" as the medical anxiety disorder is defined as "fear". That's not the only definition though.

  1. extreme or irrational fear or dislike of a specified thing or group.
    "arachnophobia"

Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay or bisexual.[1][2][3] It has been defined as contempt, prejudice, aversion, hatred or antipathy, may be based on irrational fear and may also be related to religious beliefs. Negative attitudes towards transgender and transsexual people are known as transphobia.

You do wonder how his sister really feels about this, though maybe Tone only has an issue with lad on lad action.

The neat and fastidious older gentleman who gets about in budgie smugglers is scared of teh ghey?

Scared of... or fascinated by... ? Interesting.

His sister is married to a woman, yeah?

Interesting.

Also likes dressing as a fireman.

Agree.

under this definition disagreeing over the sex/gender label of transgender people does not constitute transphobia.

likewise jk rowling is not transphobic. Although she may be androphobic.

Is having your alternative writer's name be a conversion therapist and making multiple books about men disguising as women and doing horrible things not count as transphobic. Do you really think she doesn't have an agenda?

She has literally talked about fears due to past trauma, I believe.

What we do know is that trans suicide rates drop from 57% to 4% just by having an accepting family alone. So we can assume that other mental stuff drops significantly as well.

As a supportive father of a trans teen can I ask where you got these figures from? Ive never seen anything like those numbers and would be keen to look further into them however I am by no means competent when it comes to finding studies on the net.

It's one of the sources of the pinned post at the top.
