Discussion continuing in Part 2 found here

That’s an incredibly trite answer to what I was asking. If that perspective represents a large percentage of the progressive left, I fear you’re in for a few shocks.
I was talking about Ron DeSantis and his "strength to strength" you were talking about. About the question you asked? Do you think history will change course right now, because look at the scoreboard. With the research that's been done, in terms of raw facts excluding popularity, the progressives are right.

because look at the scoreboard.
This is just incredibly arrogant. I consider myself progressive, but the success the gay rights movement (for example) has had is bringing the public along with them. Get way out ahead of the public and there will be a reaction.

I think it may be more arrogant to suggest that the lessons of history will now become obsolete. I ask you this, do you think it will change now and why?

Do I think what will change? Be specific here. The lessons of history? You can go across the globe right now and see your fantasy subverted. Think it can’t happen here? It can. People like you are your own worst enemy.

Please elaborate.

My lessons of history is that in western societies for the past 200 years, the progressives in terms of social issues have always come out on top.

Well they’ve just lost bigly in America with the repeal of Roe v Wade. I fear there is much more to come. Again, if you think this is an inevitable march to some sort of progressive utopia you are sadly mistaken.

Fair enough I guess, I'll give you that. Counter-point, abortion is more highly supported amongst young people in the US and it will become unsustainable for republicans at some point to run a campaign on.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on the progress on trans rights here?

Is there an issue with the progress of trans rights here? I’m all for anyones rights. Again, you’ll need to be more specific.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be so sure
It's almost inevitable that at some point that it would change again.

For as long as humans have tried to control each other we've also fought against being controlled.

Like I said I'm worried about what's happening in the US and around the world but that's not going to stop people fighting back

Do you think trans rights will become more popular or unpopular amongst Australians?
Crikey! However much I polish my crystal ball it remains foggy.

The issue for the trans community is it represents a tiny fraction of overall population, so it’s going to be more difficult to make the rapid gains in public sympathy the gay community did.

But I think most people are reasonable. Give them time.

No doubt people will always fight back against their oppressors. However it's not a given that fascism won't win

Sure but winning doesn't mean they will stay in control forever.

But like I said even in a short time in power a lot of damage would be done.

The lessons of history tell us that at some point everything changes.

We’ve seen a number of countries regress in terms of social freedoms in recent years, so whilst I don’t think Australia is in danger of that happening right now, I don’t think it’s a given that it won’t happen in the western world.

Not only that, but the notion that conservatism is inevitably on the losing end is exactly the charge laid against traditional conservatives by those embracing a far darker, more toxic brand, particularly in America. You’ve failed, time to get off the field, it’s our turn. This is part of the success of Trump and MAGA, but there’s far worse stuff out there than that.

Not having politicians and newspapers take every opportunity possible to discriminate them and be left alone to live their life peacefully and privately?
People would likely not give as much a shit if every corporation/company weren't shoving pride flags in everyone's face every 5 minutes. No one would have any reason to think about them. You want to be gay? Fine! The entire world shouldn't have to hear about it all the time.

"Look at what you made me do."

All this Christmas stuff... does it make you hate Christians?

I don't hate gay people. Actually have nothing against them one bit. My comment is solely in reference to the prominence of LGB promotion being a walking advertisement for their sexuality. Why does the rest of the world have to know about it all the time?
