Righto, was Varco's selection a little premature?? i mean, i'm genuinely excited by this "mutters" cos he is quick, very similiar to robert harvey, with pace and core strength, but i didn't think he had shown enough????
Anyone agree? comments

Nobody can spell our young players names. Apparently their names are Djekura, Sellwood and Varco :p

I think he justified his spot on Saturday night. If he kicks 2 a game from here on in, he'd have done his job IMO.

Varcoe was good, but ur right he probably could have done some more. Besides the two goals which were good and the setuip to selwood, i thought he perhaps could haev got more invovled but perhaps that wasnt his role.

Overall a good debut

I think he definitely won his spot, we need that unpredictability within the forward line, also he has the pace to take down defenders who think they are free.

His pace alone is great, but he also finished with two goals and set up another easy one. He also had a near miss in the goalsquare, where he could have snuck in another goal.

It was either Djerkurra or Varcoe that would have played, it was good to see Varcoe get up. His kicking of set shots is very good, I hope he stays in next week.

If I had one criticism of him it would be that he is still not very strong. To make my point in the 3rd quarter he tried to tackle Cloke and was thrown aside like a rag doll. About 3 minutes later Chappy tackled Cloke and dragged him down to the ground as only chappy can.

I use this example to highlight that Travis has a way to go yet but he certainlyt showed some good signs Saturday night. He deserved his selection after the NAB cup.

Substitute rag doll to Shannon Byrnes. :D

I saw alot of Justin Madden in him early,

but by the end of the game I think he'll end up a similar player to Greg Williams.

David Mensch for mine

Definitely the best forward prospect since Mensch.

The way he moves was like like watching Menschy in his prime circa 2000.

Re: Travis Varcoe

Definately did enough to hold his spot. He is not there to rack up possessions. 2 goals and 2 goal assists (one too Selwood and the other to someone from a kickout if I remember correctly) was enough.

He didn't have a lot of game time only that but he got a goal from one of the few stoppages in Geelong's forwardline. Something Geelong have been terrible at over the past 2 years.

Geelong have been completely hopeless out of the centre square for god knows how long but we have seemed to have done ok from stoppages in the forward line from my perspective. The tactic where we got everyone to clear the area sans Riccardi, Chapman and Ablett worked well for a fair while, certainly paid dividends throughout 05.
