Re: Calls for Varcoe to be dropped
Couldn't agree more. I have never held any respect for players who won't put their body in when it's called for, and I really hate the excuses that are made for players of that ilk. Unfortunately right now he fits into that category.
What makes it look much, much worse is some of the toughest competitors the club has ever had are in the side setting the correct example too.
In todays game I don't buy into that opinion. The club and his team mates( and all supporters should!) expect him to put his body on the line and hit the man/tackle hard. This attitude is whats driven the club to it's current dynasty and is required at AFL level with todays highly competitive, highly contested style of football. Our game plan in 2011 has changed. In the past Varcoe benefited from our run and handball game, now we play a more contested brand... he can't cope.
Varcoe's form in 2011 has been terrible. He's lucky to be getting a game, that is indisputable. Waiting week after week for him to pull out of it is not doing him or the club any favours.. he must play VFL then earn his spot.
I'm sick of seeing this Tambling/Wells 'he'll be a star one day" rubbish. Surely we can move past this, not just as a code.. but as a nation.
