The AFL needs to stop this happening asap. Someone will seriously get hurt.

Hawthorn likes this dirty type of play. They will exploit it.

Disagree. Ruck by definition is a collision position. This rule will sort the ruckman from the maulers (it already has in our team).

The Good rucks of yesteryear never complained about it. Are we really so gentile now that a few awkward hits and people call to outlaw rucks actually rucking?

A few years ago Pedlar was explosive, for parts, in the midfield. He has proven he is at least handy up forward, but he needs to be an option in the midfield. Especially with Keane and Neal-Bullen in the side. If we need class up forward more than we need it in the midfield in certain situations in a game - we do need to be able to get Rankine and Rachele in the forward 50 and have players that can get it to them. Pedlar needs to be one of these.

The move of Cook to the back line could be a stroke of genius. Fingers crossed. He has a beautiful kick, but often can't find the ball playing forward. Will be interesting if he gets exposed in the way Houston does. I expect defensively, he'd be in much the same mould and we don't need that in our team. But, if he, and the team can cover his man, he can win or at least break even his share of the 50/50's, then he could be a real weapon.
I think your understatement Cook’s ability to read the play and defend

Just because he has offensive weapons doesn’t naturally assume he can’t defend

Several occasions today he defended through reading the play, or creating a two on one situation to our advantage. He is also surprisingly good one in one

Good performances from TT, Pedlar, Peatling at times, Worrell, MacAndrew, Dawson classy on limited minutes, Tex some nice moments, Milera (except very late in the game), Cook.
Just OK - Jones, ANB, Michaelany, Fog, Bond, N Murray
Surprising - T Murray
Below par - Berry, Butts, Soligo on limited time, Edwards, Laird on very limited time, Nank, Keays

I don't know if SEN covered tonight's match (they've usually got Cornses in the curtains round there!) But it was nice to hear (on 5aa) Timmy G bailed before the jump & Tredders was oddly absent. Even Paul Bonsor on the kayo broadcast wasn't too powrochial. Could be in for a good year🤞

I got annoyed with Bicks tonight,
He credited McAndrew dominance as "Its just physics" wouldn't that mean Mason Cox would be one of the best going round... and ROB would be, I dunno?...a tree on Broadway.

My game notes:

Berry is not AFL standard. Still. Throwing him out there and expecting something different to magically happen is madness.

Milera was best on ground. Looks fit as a fiddle. Fingers crossed he can hold it together and put together a career-best season.

Both Murrays look very fit and their intensity level was excellent. A couple of “calm down buddy” moments but I like what I saw.

Rachele doesn’t have a good enough contested game to succeed as an inside midfielder. A wing would make far more sense but ultimately I still think he’s best utilised inside 50.

Charlie Edwards is rubbish. Don’t really see how he ever reaches 10 games for us. Maybe he doesn’t even reach 1 based on what we saw today. Dowling is a better player. It’s not even remotely close either.

Chayce looks very likely for Rd 1 as injury cover and really got amongst it. But jeez he’s Matt Connell reincarnated when he takes a mark and looks utterly bemused at what on earth to do with the ball before kicking to the advantage of the opposition and watching the ball sail back.

Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Tex all had their moments.

McAndrew locked and loaded for Rd 1. ROB’s career in the toilet.

Butts struggled which surprised me a bit but it’s probably just preseason cobwebs. Nobody else in defence really struggled at all with any regularity.

Bond is still a great tackler but he’s still absolutely terrible in marking contests.

Can we just play Z Taylor in Berry’s role and see what happens? He’s a midfielder with great hands and clearance craft. Berry is not it.

Worrell AA season loading.

Injuries suck, but having an opportunity to look at a side containing both Nankervis’ x-factor and Cook’s elite ball use off half back in Rd 1 is exciting.

What a bizzare take, so he's saying Mcandrew wouldn't be good if he wasn't tall?

The establishment of him and Campo trying anything they can do defend Rob is hilarious.

I mean hes half right, but he said it in such a way that made you think ROB was his son

I dont get to watch the Sanfl but my impression is Edwards played a lot of games on the back flank and didnt get the midfield minutes. Could mean he is a bit green. Wouldnt right him off. The club to play him saw something in him.

Dowling I think is stuck in no mans land. He is a damaging player but perhaps he has a speed issue and they see him as too slow for AFL footy. I dont know. Has to be a reason he isnt getting a look in.

Let's hope he remains tall during the season

I didnt hear the convo but dont know the entire context. But it was a widely held view that ROB is a better around the ground Ruckman and Lachie is just better in the center. That could be what he was referring to. Lachie can jump hence he is getting the taps.

Crazy to think: a ruckman would not be good if they weren't tall
