ScoMo is every bit the white picket fence suburban battler that Howard was. An opportunist exploiter of divisions within the electorate with a very singular view of who “we” are. Of course he’s going to condemn horrific acts of violence, and genuinely mean it, without seeing the linkage back to the divisions he helps breathe more life into.

The idea is they can rouse enough support to enforce the division without violence, but through legislation, same as Trump.

In no way should anybody feel anything negative about being an Australian. What complete and utter nonsense.
Nobody is saying we should be ashamed to be Australian. What people are saying is that we have a problem with the ever expanding platform given to far right wing nutjobs to spout their sick views, and which has now resulted in some of those nutjobs carrying out mass murder against a religious minority. These views have been allowed both by social and mainstream media to become more acceptable, and look where it's got us.

My question is what inspires these views? No one is born thinking in that manner.

Treat the cause and not the symptom.

It hasn't got 'us' anywhere. An ex-pat living away for some time. There's zero way of knowing how much of these views where shaped by similar far right attitudes in NZ. This is not a problem unique to Australia, or even the world. That doesn't mean we can't aim to do better of course, but it shouldn't be a reflection on us a society. There's a lot more good than bad. Anybody who has experienced otherwise must be in a real ****ing dump and that's a lot coming from me.

If you really want to drop into a despairing malaise go read the comments on Fox News Facebook page regarding the Christchurch Mosque shooting.

It's not just right wing nuffies saying "well I don't endorse violence but there were X Christians killed in this third world country so eye for an eye"

You also get a notably high proportion of comments confused at an Islamic Mosque in a place called Christchurch.

Today is a good day to give up on humanity even just momentarily

Seriously???? as much as Anning is well out of touch (in some areas) the practice of assaulting our MP's is should be discouraged in every possible way, the little shit is the furthest thing from being a hero and moreso weakling.

Anning brought it upon himself with his disgraceful comments, and all the kid did was egg him. What Anning did in response constitutes assault more than what the kid did.

When it happens again but someone knifes/shoots someone is that ok?

*thinks that anning guy is a ****head and should go back to working in Pauline hansons fish and chip shop.
