"Florida man gives brutally thorough answer to whether or not he's worried about Hurricane Irma."

Typical, I've got the longest and most boring headline of the lot
I'm still annoyed at this

Honestly the only headline more boringly apt would be something like

Modestly Proportioned Florida Man Could Afford to Shed a Few Pounds

Ha.
Mine was a Florida man, pretending to be a police officer pulled over two detectives.

Why is it when a next door neighbour has a party there is always one woman who has that annoying laugh that seems to be louder than the rest.

So you know she is there.

GMO foods is the other one. I find it amusing that there's a massive overlap between those who point to all the scientists saying Climate change is real and those who then when confronted with a similar scientific consensus on the safety of GMO foods go all 'Don't put anything artificial in mouths! You don't know what it will do!'.

You either take science as what's going on (within the bounds of Scientific Theory been the best theory at that point, but it's also open to been superseded) or not. Not cherry pick. So I have most respect for those that accept Climate Change is at least considerably worsened by mankind, GMO foods as safe AND nuclear power (4th generation reactors) as safe, not just those that suit their world view.

what about those that accept climate change, believe gmo foods are safe, believe nuclear power can be safe(ish), but don't see the point in going down that path when renewable options are available now that make it unnecessary?

Why am I not surprised that this story was lifted from Fox News, and makes no mention of why he needed to have a gun in his pocket in his own apartment...

Country star accidentally shoots himself dead filming music video
Rising country star Justin Carter is dead, the result of a tragic accident that happened while he was filming his latest music video.

Up-and-coming country singer Justin Carter has died after a gun accidentally fired while he was filming a music video. He was 35.

Carter’s mother, Cindy McClellan, told Fox News her son was filming a music video at his apartment in Houston, Texas on Saturday when a gun in his pocket “went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye”.

“He was a wonderful person, very loving and he loved our God very much,” Ms McClellan shared. “He had a Bible in his room, in the den, he had one in his truck. He gave to charities.”

Renewables at this time can’t provide base power, when there’s not enough sun/wind/rain (for hydro). Maybe at some point, but nuclear is the realistic base power for the next 50 odd years until then. Solar is nuclear anyway.

Is this bloke the Czech Mark Holden?

last sentence was a good chuckle

why is sun/wind/rain the only options in your mind? geothermal? wave energy? pumped hydro? battery storage? there are lots of options out there, yes they require cash but a nuclear plant isn't exactly cheap either, nor can it come online quickly.

not sure why SA people have a hard on for nuclear so bad, maybe too many years of the simpsons? it's almost 2020, nuclear is old tech.
