As some of you may know, Im 16 and not really big in the Politics, Society area.

I honastly feel for everyone involved but Australia has gone over the top.

Why are we giving such large amounts? So that we stay friendly with Indonesia. Its unbelievable how much money we have spent on this issue. I mean, we didnt give Bali a bucketload. How are we going to pay for all the money donated? The Government have to get the money some how..

Im all for donations and helping the poor and helpless. I just think we have given too much money.

Im not going to go into much depth because I dont really know a whole lot about these sort of issues (as I said).

I dont get why there is such uniltateral support for Johnnys $1b 'gift' to Indonesia...if it was an equal amount going to all affected countries thats one thing, but this well the cynic in you just has to wonder why. And Indonesia is not a poor country, if they choose to waste their money building up their military and well greasing the pockets of the sons,daughters and others of those who happen to be related to those in power then thats their buisness, why should such a large amount of Aussie dollars be spent on a country that probably wouldnt give two shxits about us if the roles were reversed.

Who cares what they would or would not do for us. Anyway if it did happen to us, as demonstrated by the fact we can afford to give to them - we are in a position to look after ourselves. Anyway I'm pretty confident they would and will come to our assistance if requested in such circumstances.

The half a billion is a very generous aid package, and the other half a billion is a fair interest free loan.

Who cares if it goes to Aussie companies in reconstruction - they need the reconstruction so why should it matter who does it - of course we should pay our own to do it.

As a spin off it is great PR in the region and alsp more importantly pays for our security. Forget the paranoia about Indonesia invading as that is bollocks, but if Acheh was left to fester then it would just become a breeding ground for islamic findamentalism, and not to mention that Acheh is fighting AGAINST the indonesians anyway, so our presence will help ensure that no atrocities are committed in the area against the rebel province.


Anyway - I think if you look at the pubic donations and level of support, then you could extrapolate that the vast majority of Aussies support the 1billion.
