Just a heads up seeing as though the game won't be telecast until the game is pretty much over, there is a way those in Perth and even Melbourne can watch the game live.

Download the program TVU player, and tune into Southern Cross at 5.40. It can get a bit slow at times during the game, but as long as you have a half decent internet connection it is definitely viewable. Its also 100% legal, but if Mods want to close then feel free to i guess

Coverage starts at 7:30pm although having 2 small kids that suits me just fine this time around. I should have just enough time to do dinners, bed times and be sitting down with my first drink come bounce down :D.

Yeah... look, in the west we all get a bit narky at Delayed Telecasts every now and then, but Friday Night Football is a bit of a tricky one...

I mean, forgetting for just a second how absymal Channel 7 can be with their broadcasting, think for a second about what it would mean to get it live?

Who among us who works either at home with maintaining a family or somewhere in the metro area actually would have a chance to get settled in and regularly watch games live at 5:40pm WST?

I have problems getting home by 5:40 some days, and I'm not even one of those people who struggles either north or south from the CBD... Every arterial around Perth has at least two to three choke points to deal with during peak hour... I don't think I've seen a convincing argument yet as to why you wouldn't delay Football until at least 6:30pm on a Friday night.

How do you resist checking the scores though?

Again 2 kids, I'll be too flat out telling-asking-demanding-begging for one more mouthful all interspersed with empty threats regarding voided bed time stories to be checking the net.

Besides which I just can't watch sport once I know the score so the only worry is flicking on the news or radio at the wrong time. TBH 7:30pm Friday is my favourite schedule for away games.

20 minutes of live sport shits all over 2 hours of the delayed stuff.

This game should be live into WA.

I'm in exactly the same boat Quokka, actually that sounds exactly like my nights .... freaky :o

... so yea, I don't mind the delay for televised games at night. But for those without kids etc, I can understand your pain.

So that a significant chunk of the population misses it because of the gridlock on Perth freeways and arterials after work?

Gonna agree to disagree with you there Nodgey. A delay until 6:30 or 7:30 is fine with me...

EDIT: Props to OP for finding a way for those who want it live to watch it. :)

I'm going to listen live to the radio. If we are getting our arses handed to us as I suspect we will I'm not sure I'll turn it on at all. I can't take any more pain this year, although strangely I watched the replay of the hawks game as it was hard to see what was going on sometimes at Subi live.

i like the 730 slot, lets me get footy training out the way, watch the first half at the footy club, get a few into me then either go home to watch the second half, or celebrate out on the town if we win :thumbsu:

I've been saying this for years.. delayed friday nights are (for obvious reasons) better for a majority of the general public. Why would you want the game to be broadcast at 5:40pm when most arent home yet, or if you are.. you have to organise dinner, etc etc.. it wouldnt bother me now as i have Fox IQ, but years ago it would have ruined Friday nights as i would have missed the first half every week..

And anyone who "cant resist looking at live scores/listening on the radio".. far out, surely its not that hard.. good luck throwing you all surprise parties

I didn't think it was any easier on the TV. Terrible weather.

7:30pm is actually a pretty good start time IMO. It gives everyone time to get home from work, sort out dinner/drinks/kids/travel/parties/whatever and then kick back and enjoy watching St Kilda get annihilated.

I'll just kill the phone at around 5:30pm so nobody ruins it and stay away from the internet (easy) and radio (easier) for a couple of hours.

Going to a pub to watch it live is actually a great idea (got this Friday off)... I'm nicking it. The only drama for me will be finding a Pub that shows it live which is a wee bit closer to Kalamunda for the stagger home. :)

If I can't find one, at least the couch is comfy....

EDIT: Might go to the Inglewood... I can deal with 6:30....

Yeah was going to go to the Inglewood. Decided to stick closer to home lol

Well, I've had mates pike, so looks like it IS the couch after all :D

Man, I go from 'going to the game' (Never experienced the atmosphere of a footy game in Melb before), to 'maybe going to the pub to watch' to 'sitting on the couch' in the space of 2 days. Not quite a "FML" moment, but still kinda discouraging.

Still, nothing an awesome chaise couch, a big TV and a 2 metre walk to the next drink can't cure... :)

How about a delay of start time for games played in EST to 8.40.

Thanks to OP for this tip. I will probably give it a go. It will cheer the Mrs up no end if we can stick the DVD on early Friday.

Isn't that pretty much what happens now, with the very reasonable argument that delaying a full two hours is a) pointless, b) frustrating, and c) a pain in the ass since by the time the coverage finishes, it's getting close to 11?

The general point I was making is that for Western viewers, there's absolutely no requirement to delay beyond 7:30pm WST, but that likewise live coverage for western viewers might not be ideal either.

For east coast viewers, it's a different kettle of fish.

We are misunderstanding. I meant (Eastern Standard Time). A start at 8.40 means 6.40 WST. So we push the actual start time back by an hour and make the east coast fit in [rant alert] with the place that is generating all the money and putting food on the table in this wide brown land.

I'm stunned that I appear to be in the minority of people who want live Friday night football.:confused: It also pisses me off when Channel 10 delay Saturday night footy by just an hour or so.

If some people are too worried they might get stuck in traffic, then I suggest they plan their day better and invest in a VCR. Or DVD recorder... Because it's people like you who are ruining it for the rest of us.

You can record the game and watch it later to suit your schedule if you must. But I can't magically move the telecast forrward three hours to suit my schedule.

I would prefer to miss the entire first three quarters if I could see the fourth quarter live.

Delayed sport sucks balls. It's not a movie or a sitcom we're talking about here. It's sport, it's a human activity that will never be repeated. To delay such an event kills its spontaneity and therefore its impact.
