Can't agree with that kezz. I feel more sympathy for them than most do, but the decision they're making can't be seen as anything but a failure in a few ways.
In my opinion, if you want to stay with your family that's perfectly fine and you're entitled to that. If that's the case, though, you don't nominate for the draft in which the conditions are that you will quite likely leave home. Nominating for the draft is, in many ways, a commitment that you're okay with that. Because from that point, club's make heavy investments in these players, and them deciding that they don't want to be away from home after all leaves the club very disadvantaged.
Being a professional AFL player is both physically and mentally tough. Just like players who aren't physically up to it shouldn't be playing the game, those who mentally aren't able to cope with the realities of the elite level competition (whether that's media pressure, having to move away from your support network, being a public figure or a number of other things) shouldn't nominate for the draft either.
There's nothing wrong with feeling how they feel. But they shouldn't have nominated for the draft in that case.
