Roast Tyson Stengle sacked after ****ing up again

Is it even a strike?
Yes. The AFL issues a strike for pretending to take pretend drugs, a young player was issued one for dressing up as either Ben Cousins or an Essendon player with an IV from memory - even though the club associated (I think Hawthorn) acknowledged that it wasn't a drug thing, it was in bad taste. Similarly Jake Carlisle was issued one for a snapchat video.

It's important to remember that the strikes are there as a procedural shrug off to allow the AFL to appear to be socially interested in the drugs it's players are taking while also keeping it secret enough that they don't need to do anything about it.

The policy has been to name players on their second strike for the last four years. They also get a four week suspension.

Odds on the number of players who have been caught twice, not been named but served a four week suspension anyway? I'd say it's more than the zero reported.

The trick with the AFL illicit drug policy is to not embarrass the league or the club by having things play out in the media - they certainly won't be telling on you but they will make an example of you if your name is out there first.

Direct quote from the article..

“7news understands the club was provided with an image of Stengle next to a plate of an unidentified illicit substance.”

Wow... so they actually havent got footage of him taking the substance?.. or have they?..

He’s just sitting next to something..

Faark me.. Says nothing about him ingesting it in anyway.. And no photo of the substance or how close it was to him.. just this photo..

Yep... thats some damning evidence right there.. lets destroy him and his career.

They should put more watermarks on it. Can't have anyone else stealing their precious photo.

I'd like to know what the substance is first. If it's weed, honestly who gives a crap. The stuff is legal in many places. Hell, I don't smoke weed at all, but about a week ago I bought a few THC drinks and a pack of THC gummys here in Canada just to try. Cigarettes are much more dangerous than weed.

Id like to see the club give him a public option if it is something more hardcore. Community service, rehab program, regular tests, or he can leave. Sacking someone with a problem just feels like brushing your hands of it rather than dealing and helping.

Looks that way.

Didn't someone on here indicate Tex had taken him under his wing after the last indiscretion...I think they even indicated he staying at Tex's abode?
He was.

The thing is, Tyson doesnt hang out with many guys from the club so really outside of being home for dinner, there isnt much they can do.

I would expect if it's only in the last 24 hours he'll be asked to voluntary be tested for illicit drugs in his system?

Excellent post, this is a ******* obscene overreaction by people. The previous incidents I understand - but there is just not enough in this for me, to effectivelt ruin someones career and change the course of there life.
The course of his life will be the same with or without football sadly

Thats the approach you take with someone on their first or second strike. Not third.

Should be sacked.

Could be wrong here, but I believe if this is drug related, we won't be able to sack him as it is only the second strike. I believe we can only sack someone on drug related causes on a third strike. No doubt the AFLPA will be all over this.
Depends what his contract says. Sometimes clauses get added regarding behavioural issues

Id say he'll be stood down to enter a rehab program.

The NBA has ceased testing for cannabis for the 2020/21 season.

Nothing to say these arent old photos. Need to wait and see. Every chance he could have been on the straight and narrows since the last incident.
That is a fair call actually. The timing of the photo would speak volumes. Have to agree with this.

Wasn’t there a story that we rewrote his contract after the last indiscretion basically giving him his last chance?
What I heard was the club wanted both Crouch and Stengel gone after that as Nicks saw it as a slap in the face to his instructions to the players to keep in top shape over the off season.

Club was able to get rid of Crouch but AFLPA stepped in over Stengel.

Reckon he’s gone now. And good riddance.

I'm assuming you meant to say:
I mean, unfortunately, you can only give so many chances and he's stupid enough to keep doing it getting caught, you have to let him go eventually. Damn shame.

Drugs are going to be prevalent for a large portion of AFL players, after all, it's a way to blow off steam and are an obstacle nearly every late teen, and early 20-year-old is going to face at this point in time (that box has been opened and will never be closed, much like alcohol, gambling, smoking and whatever other life-destroying vices you can think of will never get eradicated). I have no issue with using either, what anyone does in their private life is that, private. Of course, that's providing that it hasn't got to the point we're dealing with an addiction, and I only have an issue if the club is failing in its duty of care to the player in that situation (i.e. looking the other way because they're playing good football). I'd rather not see us have our own equivalent of Ben Cousins if there was a point to avoid it in the first place, but this is a risk we face with every vice; some people are just going to destroy themselves regardless of what is done around them.

However, if he's stupid enough to keep being caught with it, then eventually it becomes a problem. There is a level of see no evil, hear no evil about it, and at least making the appearance that he's "on the mend". If he isn't at least adhering to that, eventually the PR is just going to get bad enough that it's not worth keeping Tyson. We might have just hit that point.

There are many players that develop mystery injuries from nowhere and then have to sit out multiple weeks. One plays for Sydney. I know why I think they aren't playing.
