If Connors swears or breaks the rules in any other way the umpire should report him or pay a free but the umpire should never wave fingers in the players face and abuse him. Amateur hour. Connors was being egged on by the umpire to react, much like the North bloke did to Barry Hall.

The same should apply to the Umpire.

I agree that Wenn should receive a caution and a fine. I think it's good that the umpiring department reacted swiftly. I hope this puts the umpires in the spotlight during our matches. The media will be all over them, next time they seem harsh during our matches.

The thing that gets to me the most is the power trip - he clearly thought he was in a position where that type of comment would be acceptable.

Dunno what made him think that Connors deserved that but it's pretty obvious that if he was in that sort of mind-set, any contests that Connors was involved in after that, Wenn could not have possibly been thinking total impartiality.

For this reason alone he needs to go blow the Berwick under 18's reserves game this weekend to think about it a bit.

Just wanted to add my support to Richmond in this matter as a supporter of another club, yet also an unbiased supporter of AFL footy. Players contesting the ball in the middle of the game wander backwards into an umpire and get fined for negligent contact. This donut antagonises and abuses a great player and will no doubt get nothing for it, such is the impunity which AFL umpires are gifted with these days. It detracts enormously from the game and this guy should never be allowed to umpire a top-flite game again. It makes me ashamed to think he might be a carlton supporter.
