Frustrated Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says umpires shouldn’t have to adjust interpretations “week to week” after Power fans were left fuming during Saturday night’s loss to St Kilda.
Hinkley’s comments come as Power great Kane Cornes questioned whether there was an over-reaction on Saturday night after umpires’ boss Hayden Kennedy apologised to Saints coach Brett Ratten and Crows coach Matthew Nicks for the standard of officiating for a Round 7 game.
Vociferous Port fans made their displeasure at the officials known during their side’s 29-point loss to St Kilda.

I was too love drunk (and regular drunk) with our performance last night to notice how bad that Ladhams free was. I have no idea what the umpire thought he seen there, that is purely bewildering.

Ken and Kane both absolutely perfect. Good on them for speaking up.

he made no attempt to break the tackle or keep the ball in play. He stopped and just walked over the boundary line. Not sure how much more deliberate can you get.

The free was because he didn't pretend for long enough after already taking the ball out. It should have been a ball up.

He could have done a much better job at disguising it. I wonder at what point the boundary umpire blew their whistle for out of bounds. If they blew it after he stopped trying to keep it in, it looks dodgy, if they blew it before, then throw it in.

the saints player didn’t really get a chance to tackle because Westhoff just walked it over.
it seemed pretty cut and dry to me.
I think there was a 3rd incident as well which should of been a port free in that play.. but whistle blows free kick saints.. was utter bullshit and was seeing red.

And if the umpire sees a free directly related to the score review, can they pay it?
I mean if its cut and dry it sure would be nice to see it paid consistently.
I reckon that should be deliberate in a perfect world. Just like in a perfect world duck merchants like duckwood and schuey dont get rewarded. The issue isnt the free. Its the changing interpretations and inconsistency. Id say balls get walked over the line like that 20 times a weekend without a deliberate being paid.
