Roast Umpiring: Corruption or Incompetence, or both

Simple solution is what the SANFL does isn’t it?

I can sympathise with the umpire. Last moments of the game, some ambiguity on the decision, I see the ambiguity decision being was the player going for the point or OOB. Doesn’t mean the umps ambiguity was correct however. Then they freeze.
Gambling, viewing figures, multi billion dollar tv deals etc.
There’s nowhere on earth where that much money is involved and there’s no corruption.
Completely alternate view o another thread, but I agree with you.

The Geelong Non HTB call at Kardinia Park
No mark paid to Cameron at SCG
The crows deliberate at AO

The crows deliberate is probably the most blatant deliberate out of bounds ever and not paid.

All those non calls impacted the result of a game all in favour of the home team.
No, that match against St Kilda a few years back was sooo blatant deliberate OOB’s & not paid. It all finished OK for Ports when Paddy soon after gave a beautiful throw in tap to a rampaging Robbie Gray who slotted a beauty. If I remember correctly the Saints were given a ride by one certain umpire.

I don't usually like to fall into the "that would've been paid against us for sure" victim mentality, but that would've been paid against us for sure.

It literally was. In a close game. At home. In a prelim.

Hadcto lol at the Port v North game yesterday.

Perfect htb tackle by a Port player. Dragged him down from the side, rolled him over so as not to infringe, player had prior opportunity, made no attempt to dispose of the ball, then pomptly drops it - "in the back" to North.
Port crowd howls with rage.
Old mate near us says with a deadpan, poker face "learn the rules you Port idiots", and shakes his head condescendingly.

Later in the match, identical repeat occurrence - "play on" says the umpie, and Norf kicks a vital goal in a low scorincg game. Howls of rage and "cheat" echo once more.
Old mate looks in a wide eyed, almost dismayed countenance, then shrugs the shoulders and blandly lets forth with a "Hey. The umps do their best. And anyway, I thought it was a fair decision".

Two of the worst interpretations imagineable, and that bone headed tripe is what you have to put up with!

How do you mean alternate view?

If you mean to compare science denialism with corruption in sport I disagree.

If you mean to compare big business being more than willing to exploit people I agree :).

To anyone who doesn't think umpires are incompetent and/or corrupt, pull your head out of your arse, wipe the sh*t from your eyes, and look at the world clearly.

Compare the pair.

I was happy with the result but what a shocker

No reasonable person could argue that was not deliberate

Already in this game. Too much time for Sidebottom, Dubious deliberate to DBJ, and Inconsistently giving HTB to Boak with zero prior opportunity and illegal disposal, yet Geelong been doing it all year. Umpriing is a joke.

Players get penalised if they drop a player to the ground, but the umpires give too much time to dispose of the footy.

I'm sick of umpires trying to maintain too much control of the game. Earlier called SPP to let the players get up for themselves. Just shut the hell up.

At what stage of the game was our first htb called tonight? The 3rd or 4th Qtr?

the unpaid marks (I mean on one occasion it was held for half the Qtr before it was knocked out) for us then for bizarre marks to be paid for them. The oob marks that went different ways depending on what team it was. The 50m penalty against ladhams when the ump called stand as ladhams moved only to be ignored when Moore took 5 steps sideways after being told to stand. The bizarre htb calls against us. That boak one was horrific. Adams slamming rozees head against the turf repeatedly like he’s an mma fighter who’s lost his marbles and trying to kill a man while the ump watches and pays a free reversal against us cause Dbj saves rozee from brain damage. The ump calling for Jonas to get up and take his kick when he can clearly see (again I think it was adams?) has him in a headlock. Grundy throwing a guy to the ground in close to a sling tackle a full minute before the ball gets to the contest. Pies players running 20m with the ball and getting nailed in a legal tackle being called play on (you are lucky to see that many run down tackles in a days games much less one game and all no whistle? What are the odds?) in the opening minutes a chickenshit pies player goes to ground and slides past the ball rather than trying to pick it up and Amon gets done for a hold.
And the list goes on. Tonight was a total utter farce.

Hopefully we bring this up with the AFL better to do it after a win so can't be seen as just being poor losers happens to often there's to much at stake to cop this shit.
Has been happening for ever difference being in sanfl we were that much better it didn't matter in the AFL so little seperated teams it's crucial.
Take last night non delibarte call but gets payed against in a preliminary ultimately costing us a shot at a flag.
The HTB is a dog's breakfast need to be rewarding the tackler FFS 🤦.

What about when we were paid a free kick but instead of the Collingwood player giving the ball back, they placed it on the ground 15m from the mark and ran away? Then his teammate (Adams?) decides to remonstrate with the Port player who tries to retrieve the ball. How TF that isn't a 50m penalty is beyond me.

I've just messaged Richo we should all let our thoughts known maybe a petition 🤣 but seriously we need to make some noise

Ray Chamberlain is the worst most corrupt umpire in this business franchise.
I don't believe that Ray or any of the AFL umpires are corrupt. Saying they're corrupt is imply that they are receiving incentives, monetary or otherwise, outside of the remuneration they receive for umpiring from the AFL to manipulate the result of games, ie match fixing.

If that was happening without the AFL being a party to it then the umpiring performance we saw yesterday, and we see quite regularly, would result in the AFL not selecting those umpires for AFL duty the following week. The fact that AFL is quite OK with the way our games are being umpired indicates to me that the umpires are simply following instructions from the AFL to manipulate results to meet the AFL's agenda. That agenda may be ensuring that "interstate" teams don't play finals or it may be punishing us for the stand on wearing the Prison Bars.

That may sound like tinfoil hat talk but how else do you explain that the AFL sees no issue with repeated obvious umpiring mistakes and glaring inconsistencies?
