Most egregious was the start of the 3rd (?) when we caught a player holding the ball - nah ball up. 5 seconds later Hopper caught in the same way, free kick Hawthorn.
Yep, I was irate with that, zero prior opportunity and never gets paid against anyone (but us, apparently). They can get ****ed.

And the explanation was "no attempt" when Newcombe 4 seconds earlier just rested his free arm on the ground and waited for the ump to call ball up which he did. How many tackles do you see every week called a ball up when there's no attempt? Must be hundreds.

One of the worst frees paid today was where I think it was Hopper who got bumped from the front, and the bumper got the free because the inertia of Hopper's arms kept going forward and got the bumper high...

Since the start of 2017, 194 matches we have played, we have received 3,306 free kicks, and had 3920 paid against us. Our deficit is 614 free kicks in 194 matches at an AVERAGE deficit of 3.2 free kicks per game. On average we have received 17 free kicks per game. And on average we have had 20.2 free kicks paid against us.

So in effect, this would have the same effect on your win/loss record as having level free kicks 20-20 in every match except after about every 6 matches of that you have to play a game where you receive zero free kicks and the opposition gets 20. Which is more or less like having about every 12th match handed to the opposition when you would have otherwise won, assuming you have an average 50% w/l ratio.

This is all assuming teams should have a roughly zero sum free kick tally based on their style of play over such a large sample of games. But hey, every team is out there trying to do the same things, so why should we assume otherwise?

Richmond is 0-9 w/l on the free kick differential over the last 9 seasons. No other club has had less than 2 seasons with a positive free kick differential.

Clubs with free kick differentials worse than -1 per game in a season in the last 9 seasons:

9 Richmond
6 Port
4 Giants Swans Saints Roos
3 Dockers Hawks
2 Suns Bombers Demons Crows Eagles
1 Blues Cats
0 Pies Lions Dogs

8 out of the other 17 clubs beside Richmond DO NOT have as many seasons in the last 9 years with a free kick differential worse than -1 per game between them as Richmond does on its own. 🤔

On average, teams have a free kick differential >-1 per game about 2.3 times over the last 9 seasons. Richmond has clocked the machine, absolute max 9 out of 9, no other club has 8 or 7, only one other club above 4 from 9.

What the actual **** was that from the green slime?

23 frees to 10, we could not buy a htb decision were plenty missed. But none the other way.

We have now had 134 free kicks to us in 8 games. And 154 against.

Hawks 184 frees for v 125 against.

A 80 free kick differential surplus between them and us in 8 games. That is 10 per game.

Nobody is selling that to me as legit.
Corruption in sport.

Corruption in sport.

Except it is no longer sport involved. It is just corruption. Cubed.

There are 4 big clubs with big followings in Melbourne. Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood.

In the last 9 seasons, Carlton, Essendon & Collingwood had 3 seasons with a free kick differential worse than -1 per game between them.

Richmond on its own has 3 times as many as those 3 clubs combined.

Yep, the frees were 18-5, then we got like 3 of the most basic frees in a row.

It was terrible yesterday. I left at that point, it's just a waste of my actual time staying and watching.

What about the illegal block paid on Faull again when he was blocked from 3 deep trying to jump for the mark. If the Gold Coast game was the fairest umpiring we've copped I'm not sure what that was

Also the free Lynch got for being collected high during a blatant block. You just know that if Lynch didn't get a forearm to the face, they wouldn't have paid the block.

Easy to see how hawforn get way overs in frees every week. Any incidental head contact they recoil like they’ve been hit with a brick to make sure umpire sees it , and being as thick as a brick dopey umps fall for it every time

Yet Vlastuin gets taken legitimatelg high by Watson twice and not one of them was called.

Generally after I've calmed down I look back at the game and realise the umpires didn't really influence the game as much as I thought at the time. I put that down to in the moment emotion.

After both the Melbourne games and yesterday's games I still feel like we copped it hard. None of this playing over the edge nonsense we kept hearing about when we played under dimma, we're just fn copping it and I'm sick of it.

I'm watching every single long ball into the oppos 50 with anxiety that the whistle is going to be blown. It takes away from the enjoyment of the game when it's constantly being stopped because of something so fn trivial, and then to hear commentators try their absolute best to justify the umpires call.

Then we'll have Laura Kane or whatever he fn name is come out next week talking about how good the membership numbers are and crowd numbers going well, with Gerard whately on radio beating himself off over the rule changes his mistress husband made before going off to work at Geelong. It's no secret that channel 9 put in a higher bid at the last broadcast rights tender but the AFL in there infinite wisdom chose to stick with 7 who NEVER question anything.

The organisation has completely cooked the game and it's never looked worse. You're waiting for a whistle at every contest and yet we just put up with it. Any other sporting organisation around the world and the fans wouldn't cop it.

The game is fn putrid at the elite level.

Great analysis. The upshot of this is that if it is statistically examined by a statistician their conclusion would be cheating and collusion. It is not mathematically possible without that
