Something Tiger71 said on last week's podcast (I only listened to it today) got me thinking. Against the Swans we lost by 45 and the frees by 10. Port Adelaide we lost the match by 2 and the free kicks by 10. Against the Demons we lost the match by 34 and the frees by 7. Against the cats we lost the match by 63 and the frees by 10. Against the Lions we lost by 28 and the frees by 12. Is there a correlation here? Not at all... well not until you take into account the following round. Below is the list of losses with the following round (match result/free kick result):

Round 3: Loss/Loss (Sydney)
Round 4: Loss/Loss (Port Adelaide)
Round 5: Win/Loss (St Kilda)
Round 6: Loss/Loss (Melbourne)
Round 7: Win/Win (Western Bulldogs)
Round 8: Loss/Loss (Geelong)
Round 9: Win/Loss (Greater Western Sydney)
Round 10: Loss/Loss (Brisbane)
Round 11: Win/Win (Adelaide)

What I am getting at is I think the club is privately into the AFL regarding the umpiring decisions. We have to take into account that we are going to be on the wrong end of the ledger the majority of times. What stands out to me is the free kick win against both Adelaide and the Dogs (how often do they lose the free kick count???) came after what we as a supporter group thought was a poorly umpired match the week before. There is an anomaly (there usually is in these things) - the match against GWS was a pretty poorly umpired match but we won so even if the club did question the adjudication of decisions I feel they would have been told to go away because we won. Same goes with the St Kilda match - we lost the frees by plenty but flogged them so probably didn't bother questioning anything (I can't remember if the umpiring was poor or not - free kick count doesn't tell you that).

So, to sum up, I think the club has agreed the umpiring has been poor and I think they have been quietly into the AFL about it.

It finally happened!!!

For the first time this year, we actually scored more goals from free kicks than our opponents (4 Tiges v 2 Crows).

Every other team has had at least one game this year prior to Round 11 where this happened. Finally we caught up.

tbh I was blowing a fuse with the blocking free paid early to O'Brien. That was ****ed.

There has been talks behind the scenes I have no doubt and the bullish from Gilligan regariding Bolton and rioli was a smoke screen to cover the change I have watched two different umpiring standards since the Brisbane debacle

We re getting the free kicks we deserve , the way we were being umpired was reprehensible, I have no doubt discussion took place with a shit load of vision that would have disgusted anyone that saw it

Agree that we're getting the ones we deserve the last 2 weeks
I did feel a little dirty with some of the non-HTB decisions though, I know they weren't paying them for either club unless a player dived on it, but it's still terrible umpiring

I didn't think they were that bad to be honest.
What was the big issue?
25-14. Reckon the last 10 mons would have been about 8-1 or something. A tonne of absolutr BS ones, probably the worst of all was Marlions "dangerous tackle" .. spare me .... and that is not to mention the no calls such as bolton veing held, Jk marking a 7 m kick, and yeo having a rule of his own that he is not allowed to be pinged for htb .... oh, and if a richmond player farts its olay on from a mark, whereas the eagles get to run, and run, and run before it is called (wss it CCJ on the boundary and his man just ran away and he is looking at the ump like wtf can i run yet???)

The club needs to call a meeting with the umpiring department to ask for a better understanding to why we are constantly losing the umpiring line by 10+ frees. If we are doing something wrong, we need to at least look like we are trying to rectify it. I dont think we are tbh, but its the way to get a better rub of the green to take the right path to getting a better understanding of it.

the 10m pass & the dangerous tackle call were just outrageous tbh.

They gave waterman a second shot after the tool advantage too

For that one in particular I certainly don't agree it was a dangerous tackle but I've seen them commonly been given for in the back.
Especially when a tall is bending down to pick up the ball you almost have to wait until they stand up straight otherwise they hit the deck with minimal contact and even thought it's not in the back and a solid tackle it's something that's fairly regularly called in the back.

The dangerous tackle, the Grimes handball called a throw, the Reddan holding one where he just threw the ball away, the eight metre kick to Kennedy which all resulted in goals... we lost by four points!!
