I did some quick sums at the beginning of the year. Apeness (best said in a faux French accent) has been on our list for twentyseven years and has played - including games for Peel - a grand total of 32 games.

He's done his knee again and must be thanking his huge googly-eyed God that he is signed till 2018, because that's the only positive number associated with him.

Very unfortunate.

Get well soon, 'appiness.

I take it you're not an accountant. If so, I want to come work with you for the long service leave benefits

7 games for Freo in, what, five years? Another 25-odd for Peel over the same period. That's low output by any measure.

He's a big unlucky unit who plays with no regard for his personal safety. I can see why we have persisted but should his knee come good by year's end, it is the very last roll of the dice.

(And, just quietly, Hyperbole isn't a town in the wheatbelt.)

We all agree with this, I think we're just a bit confused about you saying he's been on our list for 27 years in your OP. Are we missing the joke?

Sadly Apeness is going the same way as Morabito. A. Pearce is starting to look he may go this way as well.

Very unlucky.
I like Apeness because he's a bit of a junkyard dog but I do expect that if he doesn't play much next season, we'll cut him loose. I don't want it but it's realistic.

But the tough one will be Alex Pearce. Apeness has done a few good things and sounds really good but Pearce has played some stellar football. He was already proven enough and if he was fit he'd be a walk up because not only is he good, it seems Ross Lyon likes him too. I love the way he uses his body even though he isn't especially big – the way he'd shove much bigger and more experienced forwards with just his hips, not through strength but through timing, was encouraging. He just knows where to stand and when to do something, whether it's getting in position, bumping away a player, or going for a spoil... such a crackin full back and guys like that can only get better once they put on some muscle, fitness, and get accustomed.

I'll be spewing if Alex Pearce doesn't play 100 games for us.

(Also I get the title... say Apeness as Appuh-nes as many did originally and yeah, I get you there.)

A very sad situation for Ape and the club. Him being injured and unavailable for so much of his time on our list has limited his chance to develop some footy smarts in a game situation. A bigger problem for him than most as he comes from more of a rugby background rather than an AFL background if my memory of such things is correct.

All that seems rather irrelevant at this stage however as he will have to be Lazarus mk2 to ever have a meaningful career by the look of things. Those injury gods are such horrible sods towards some players.

We seem to have some issues with certain types of injuries on certain types of players...

Really tough break for Apeness.
He and A.Pearce were the first KPP players we drafted after a long string of mids.
I had/still have high hopes for both of them.
Apeness did not play that many games for us yet, but when he did, there is always reason to be excited about his performance.

I'm really starting to have doubts in our trainer/medical team's ability to handle soft tissue injuries.
Griffin turned out ok after a long long rehab (his performance aside).
But Morabito, Bennell, Clarke and now Apeness seem to keep suffering setbacks.
Is it really just their body, or is it the management of the injury?

The official party line is "We still blame the Fremantle Oval surface".

I guess with this being a reconstruction of the PCL he will be on the back foot leading into next year as well.

These PCL injuries are a concern, does he have an issue with the way he plays/protects himself or does this just fall under the Morabito rule of a cruel body makeup?

Yeah this is why I do not believe Bennell is out through some grand issue with the AFL or the club... our medicos are pretty average looking from outside in.

These are the questions that have to be asked. Are we just the unluckiest team of all time, or is something wrong in our medical room?
