This is mainly a question for the under-18's, but i would love to hear the opinions of the older folk aswell.

Do you or have you drunk alcohol when you were under-18, if so how much? Did you ever get drunk, or just tipsy? Also, how did you acquire the alcohol?

Just so that no one feels scared of answering truthfully, i'l give you my situation.

I have never been drunk, but i do occasionally drink at parties( never more then a few sips,). My friends tend to drink heavily on the weekends and very often get off their heads so bad i sometimes have to literally carry them home. They get the alcohol with the fake ID's they have.

The reason why I ask this is I'm just curious if this is a problem in Australia, or just a few isolated incidents (like my friends).

i have not been drunk, but I too have many friends who do. They Brag about getting smashed on the weekend, and tell me I gotta get drunk sometime. I would say 6/10 under 18 people have been drunk some time, and definately 9/10 would have had alcohol, it isn't hard to get, heaps of parents buy it for there kids and when you go to parties, many have guys or gals over 18, so they can get it easily.

I used to drink more when I was underage than I do now. Perhaps it was the thrill factor or something, not sure, but I think I got drunk, or nearly, every weekend for a while in the year before I turned 18. Used to get alcohol from friends who were 18, or who had fake id, or who had friends who worked in liquor shops.

I do quite frequently get drunk but dont do it just to say "I got smashed" I do it becuase it acts as a SOCIAL LUBRICANT......It relaxes and makes me feel more confident etc and I enjoy drinking :D Its good to kick back with a few mates and sink a few Beers or Bourbons(preferebly) ;)

Have fun while ya can is my motto :)

BTW - Havent spewed in 1 and a 1/2 years

I used to go out to clubs and pubs when i was 16 and i would be let in. Down the Grande at Glenelg they dont check ID there...especially when yur with a hot chick who looks 19 :D
I used to get very very drunk very often...like every weekend from the time i was about 16 1/2 to 18...then once i turned 18 the novelty went away.

I used to buy alcohol over the counter or at pubs...its not like they checked IDs much where i went...you go places they dont check.

Hmm very interesting topic.

I don't drink much.... Only at the footy, parties etc......, Dont get smashed though.

I don't see much point in that! Couple drinks are ok but thats it for me, I know when too draw the line and **** so yeh.

The thing I find frustrating, its accepted that you're 'cool' if you go out and get drunk every weekend.

I'm lucky as that isn't really my friends mentality. They pressure me to get pissed with them, but never give me ***** for refusing. But is a mentality among many other people I know, who consider themselves somehow "superior" because they get drunk.

When I was underage I did get drunk heaps, but not like all weekend every weekend, I always thought that was a little lame. Drinking is good, but u gotta know when to stop and its refreshing that most of you know your limits. Gosh I hope I don't sound too old there  LOL its not meant to......anyone who saw me on GF day knows I'm no angel. :D

Drinking is an institution where i live (sunbury) and i think alot of it or amongst my friends is brought on by the local footy clubs.I would say there would be thousands of kids every weekend just roaming our streets gettin pissed and gate crashing parties.I agree with top dog about drinking only enhance my social skills .Almost every weekend i see some wa*ker starting a fight with anyone he sees because he is just blind.Oh and my dad is the one that usually purchased my grog before i turned 18 this year.

Spides, glad to hear it!!!!! How could ya let a Lions win go by and NOT have a drink. :D LOL or many, in my case.......:D

i might just add onto my post that i look back on that period and pretty much regret it. I dont even know why i used to drink every weekend...byt the time i reached the legal age it wasnt fun anymore and i didnt want to - so i ended up stopping everything for a year...no drink, no smokes, no drugs. Then of course i broke up with my long time gf and ended up back in that life style again, but now i dont drink every weekend altho i like to go out every weekend.

Its not worth it getting drunk all the time, its a waste of money really...altho i shall be getting drunk tonight for me birthday :):):)

I got smashed more when i was underage than i do nowadays.....ahhhh those were the days. I have a great relationship with my parents and they knew my friends and knew where i was going and how i was getting home. So they would buy me the alcohol.

Bottle of bourbon and a walk to the nearest house party. Get hammered and then walk home. That was the life.

I drink socially, but I can say I have only got drunk two or three times, and they haven't been to the point of throwing up or to the point of having my brain useless...:D

I got drunk a few weeks ago when Box Hill won the VFL premierships, but it was the Hawthorn players who got me drunk! Seeming I was getting picked up, and I didn't have to pay fo the drinks, as well as it was a celebration, I just kept drinking. I crossed the Maroondah Highway twice (always a great idea when your drunk  ), but I am a sensible drunk, although I get louder than I usually am.

I got drunk on New Year's in the City, which unfortunately gave me Dutch courage, because i asked out a girl, she said yes, and she cheated on me.

I got drunk at the start of last year at our cricket break-up. The beer was free, so I kept a drinking!

I might have a drink here and there, but I don't see getting drunk as specil or anything. I don't brag about it, because it's nothing to brag about. I drink because it's being social, and it helps you have a good time, but I don't see the point of going to parties and getting drunk...it just leads you to do stupid things.

The Hitman

I probably started going out to pubs and really drinking when I was 16. My friends and I all looked 18, and we were very rarely asked for ID. Back then you could pretty much scam your way in anywhere without much trouble. My parents were cool with it, as long as they knew where I was and who I was with.

It was fun back then, maybe because of the fact we were breaking rules. We never really completely wiped ourselves out, and never got into any trouble.

These days I would probably drink every day. A wine with lunch, and sometimes a scotch when I get home from work.

I've always been able to drink a lot, and keep control of myself. Plus, I never get hangovers, regardless of how much I drink. That's always been handy!

When i was a bit younger, i used to drink a fair bit at parties.
*Sniff* Those were the days *Sniff* :D

Nowadays, i have the occasionally drink and rarely get drunk

Aghh, binge drinking, one of the topics that was doing the rounds at school a couple of weeks back. I've only ever got drunk twice at parties. I was pressured into it and the peer pressure is the factor I hate about drinking. As people have said, its considered trendy and cool to get so drunk tht you throw up. When at parties I always try to get tipsy but thats as far as I go. My mentality is, if I drink too much now, there will be nothing special about it later and I will get sick of alcohol. Apparently its becoming a social issue as my dad mentioned it to me in this article he read about it. It's just a fad I guess and will probably die out.

On the subject of drinking and this is addressed to WA people, WTF am I meant to do for leavers now? Rotto got booked out within three hours despite us having 6 mobiles all at once trying to ring up. Dunsborough will be crap this year as NO alcohol is allowed AT ALL. The place will be swarming with cops just making sure that you don't bring alcohol down with you and don't buy it when your down there. Whats Margaret River like, I heard a few people go down there but I suspect it will be the same as Dunsborough? I might just end up going to a few private parties down in Mandurah on the canals...much cheaper anyway. Still I'm pissed off at missing out on Rotto!
