AFL Club
Adelaide
In Andrew Jarman's column in this week's Inside Football he has this little tidbit:

LEFT OUT: There's a certain AFL player in Adelaide who is feeling unloved by the selectors at his club. He's telling them that he's fit and ready to play, but he seems to be getting overlooked for selection. He might be keen on leaving at the end of the year.

I'm not sure how authorative a source Andrew Jarman is, but I do find this a bit intriguing. He says "in Adelaide" so it may not be us but the other mob. But if it is us who is it likely to be? I immediately thought of Michael Doughty - who has been unlucky to miss selection in the early part of the season. But of course he did get picked last week (without getting much of a run), which should rule him out, unless Jarman is producing out of date rumours. I can't think of anyone else it could be; I think we've given all our injury free non project players a run so far this season. Any ideas?

If it's us could it be that big girl Ben Marsh??

He did have discussions with Essendon prior to the trade period at the end of last season at his request.

Wouldn't it be great if he was used in a trade that gets us Mark Jamar?!?!?!?!:)

Maybe it's a Port Power player such as Montgomery who hasn't played for a while & if i remember correctly was close to pulling the pin a couple of years ago,
Bit hard to get picked when you're on the injury list.
However there could be a few players down our way that could fit the bill.

Would be very surprised if it was Monty, but how about Guerra?

Such as...? :)
To be honest, I live too far away to know first hand gossip, but Williams is not one to give players a go for the sake of it. They have to earn it and then some.
Look at Thurstans and Morgan. Thurstans is turning out to be a good player.
Guerra would make the starting 22 in most if not all teams.
When we had French, Brogan couldn't get a game, even though he seems to be the better player.
Koula could be ready to play as well, in his own mind.
The competition for HFF is very strong at Port. Che will probably not play every game, fit or not.
List of players that don't play much is long, but I seriously doubt it would be one of our first choice players.

Chad Cornes, Kane Cornes. (no harm in dreaming is there??) ;)
Wouldn't Father Of Chad and Kane be happy.
Pity it ain't going to happen. :D

I think there is a long list. Thurstans, Guerra, Lade, Cassissi, Koula etc...

The quote does say that the player is getting overlooked for selection. Considering Thurstans has played all but 1 game this year that should rule him out dont you think? Similar with Guerra...however i do think we will lose him at the end of the year. Hes too good a player to be sitting on the bench for 85% of games.

Lade has played a fair few games as well.

Id say from Port it could be:

Morgan whos been playing very well for North but cant get a game

Cassisi whos been doing well for West but cant get on the bench

Hall whos been burning for South but cant get in

But i reckon its Koula. I reckon the fitness part of the rumour is towards Koula whos spent most of his AFL career injured. Hes now fit...has played a couple of great games as well. After being BOG last week...he could well get the nod this week.

Truly the greatest injustice ever to befall anyone or any club is the disgraceful act by the PAFC to draft the 2 sons of the inaugural coach of the AFC in Graham Cornes who is i might add also a legend of the Glenelg FC,

Although we had no chance at Chad not drafting Kane when we had the chance will forever lie on the heads of Mr Reid & co,

So to come back to the last bit of what Jarman said... would Koula attract interest from other clubs?

I blame the father son rule. It was introduced a few years too late. I blame the AFL:mad: :)

If Koula keeps going he will get his chance. He will need to make the most of it when it comes.
Not too sure exactly where he fits in the scheme of things (team balance wise), but he will get his chance if he stays fit.

Doesn't the father son rule divide the SANFL clubs among the Power and the Crows about half and half. And I think Glenelg is one of the Power sides so both Cornes boys would have been eligilbe for the power under the father son rule. However if Graham coached the crows for another year Chad and Kane would have been eligible for Adelaide under the father son rule.

Glenelg is a Crows team along with South, Sturt and Norwood.

And yes the latter was true at the time of Chad's drafting. We should have kept Graham another year for that reason; Shaw was no better. :) I assume that's been changed though - remember Wallace's sook last year?
