You could tell the players had heavy legs. 3 tough away trips in a week, and no attacking options other than teenagers to come off the bench.

Disappointing to concede so late, but get some bodies back after the break, and we load up again.

Yes it’s been an intense schedule, this week in particular and no doubt fatigue crept in towards the end. Rice was phenomenal as usual and his engine is incredible, even he was flagging. Merino, Saka as well. With Madueke, Havertz, Gyokeres, Martinelli, Odegaard all injured it was almost essential that those guys played the 90.

If anything Arsenal have done incredibly well to churn out wins despite these injuries, eventually that was going to have an impact. We’re not going to bring in Dowman or Harriman Annous in these situations however I did feel Hincapie, MLS and/or Nwaneri could have bolstered the energy levels in that closing 10 minutes. Mosquera the only sub utilised in this one.

Anyway, we find ourselves in a position of strength still with so many players to return on the horizon, hopefully in that week after the international break.

What's the rationale behind Saka being captain while Ødegaard is out? He seems like a quiet character, whereas Rice and Gabriel have strong personalities.
One day, he'll be Arsenal captain'
Personality and strength of character have become crucial factors in the make-up of young English footballers, things Dewsnip says are now key elements of their development process.

"Education is a major part of it," says Dewsnip. "Young players are involved in workshops around social issues. When you hear Bukayo and others speak, they do so with intelligence, insight and maturity."

"We pride ourselves on the fact we recognise students' character development as well as their academia," adds Harvey.

"We facilitated that and worked with his family and Arsenal from the moment he was with us. I went back to check his behavioural records and there was nothing, he was Mr Squeaky Clean!

"He was always so humble. When you are that good at something and you are playing against others who aren't on the same level, it is important to remain a good sportsman. One day, he'll be Arsenal captain."

The winger, who has been with the Gunners since the age of seven, made his first-team debut in a Europa League tie in November 2018 and appeared in the Premier League for the first time in January.

Arsenal have been known for playing slick, attacking football in the past, but there has been more directness about them this season, with set-pieces proving particularly effective. Long throws have also increasingly been part of their threat.

To combat the throw-in danger, Sunderland moved the advertising boards around the edge of the pitch closer in than usual, to limit the amount of space Arsenal players had when looking to launch the ball.

"We tried to find the details to win the game," said Le Bris, when asked after the 2-2 draw if that was true.

"They are really strong on set-pieces, we are good as well, and this threat was really important for this game and in the end it was balanced."

It was indeed more balanced, with Sunderland able to restrict Arsenal to just two corners all game - the same number they had. bbc.com

There was a period in the second half leading up to Trossards goal when we had multiple shots on goal in open play.
So not just a set piece team.

I ****ing hate international football so much.

Our next 3 games after another ****ing stupid disruption are Tott (home) Bayern (Home) Chelsea (Away).

Be prepared for the absolute clown circus media shit show if we lose any of those.

In summary, Madueke was close to being part of the Sunderland squad. So I’d imagine that means he will be available for the NLD, Bayern and Chelsea week which is huge.

Gyokeres, Odegaard, Havertz and Martinelli also will be pushing to be in the squad for those matches, that’s massive for the club. Jesus on track for the end of this year.

Meanwhile, the Everton PL match brought forward to the Saturday night, which gives approx 3 days rest in between matches for the EFL Cup match against Palace. Goodison Park is always a challenge recently for Arsenal, an 8pm Saturday night kick off and the crowd will be right up for it. Common sense prevails for once in moving the match dates.

Arsenal are in advanced talks over appointing Napoli head of scouting Maurizio Micheli into a leading recruitment position.

In what would be viewed as a significant coup for the London club, Micheli - who has been credited with the identification of players such as Marek Hamsik, Kim Min-jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - is said to be finalising a move to Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League club have undergone a period of internal change over the previous 12 months following the departures of sporting director Edu and his number two Jason Ayto.

Andrea Berta was appointed the club's sporting director in April and is playing a key role in shaping the club's recruitment department.

And Berta is understood to have identified Micheli, 57, as a key appointment to his team, with discussions already believed to be underway.

The Arsenal lads propping up England :D

Saka playing the full match hopefully means he’s rested for their next one.

Calafiori apparently picked up a hip injury during the Sunderland match however he is expected to play Italy’s next match.

Meanwhile, Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso says Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has left the international camp.

He did not play in Italy's World Cup qualifying win over Moldova on Thursday, having been following an individual training programme for load management.

"We tried Calafiori, he had a few issues," Gattuso told Sky Sports Italia, external before Italy's match against Norway on Sunday.

"I thank him for his commitment. He stayed here for a week, he could have played perhaps, but it wouldn't have been fair to him or Arsenal."

A source told BBC Sport that Calafiori has not returned to Arsenal for any treatment.
