Didn’t realise at the time, it was Martinelli who won the ball defending in our box. Then sprints forward and moments later is picked out by Eze for the 3rd goal.

The importance of having fresh game changers off the bench, yes ****ing please.

The first time pass from Merino to Eze was just as impressive.

Dowman highlights. He's about 5 levels above that competition.

Incredible. I also read in that match that Arsenal’s Luis Munoz made his debut in that completion. The youngest to ever feature in the uefa youth league. He’s 13.

Born in 2011, that’s amazing. Now that makes me feel old, 2011 haha. Quite staggering how these players seem to get younger, even yesterday was very very impressed with young Karl for Bayern. 17 years old and he was everywhere in their front 4, hell of player emerging there.

2011... I was 31 🥺

Our under-18s left with a hard-fought point after a 2-2 draw to Tottenham Hotspur in the U18 Premier League South on Saturday.
We were quick off the whistle, and six minutes were all it took to strike first in the north London derby. Ife Ibrahim, one of a handful of under-21s regulars in the squad, won the ball deep in Spurs' half and found O'Neill in the perfect position to slot home to the bottom right of Dylan Thompson's net. arsenal.com

Ibrahim continues to impress.

Enjoyed that replay, a seriously good contest. Some random thoughts initially.

Feisty too at times, plenty of tackles flying in and I was surprised to see so many bookings just for Arsenal in that opening. No doubt having so many early yellows then causes some extra pressure from the way they play then on.

Can’t fault the red card though. Caicedo seemed riled up from the get go, he was a walking red card. It was utterly pathetic watching him roll around like that feigning injury.

Miraculously he’s up a few moments later with the “who me?” smile on his face trying to con the ref. ****ing embarrassing.

So much for the Rice v Caicedo sub plot. The bloke lost his head and rightly punished for it.

It speaks to the nature of Arsenal this season that we get players back, but then lose more to injury. Trossard mid week, Saliba with a training injury yesterday. Whilst I thought aside form a few nervous moments that Mosquera and Hincapie did well, I also feel Gabriel and/or Saliba command that corner and we don’t concede. It is what it is and overall thought Chelsea really played well, they were certainly up for it, and a draw is fair enough.

Saka I thought was excellent in controlling the tempo and if anything was going to happen it would be down his side. That was lovely the way he crafted that cross and Merino is a genuine aerial weapon when he times his run like that. Could we have won the match? Sure, some late opportunities were there late on.

Overall though, a draw maintains our lead over Chelsea, and now 5 points on City. So long to go still however Arsenal are ticking off some tough away fixtures already. That’s Anfield done, Newcastle, Old Trafford, Chelsea etc already out of the way.

Happy with a draw. Poor football game, but God was it physical. My gut feeling is that Chelsea was a team looking to prove a point and Arsenal was a team that seemed assured of itself. As we proved against ManC last season, a talented, well coached team reduced to 10 can be extremely difficult to breakdown.

Both teams were playing their third game of the week - both off the back of big CL wins, we had one day less to prepare. Home ground energy was as big a factor as anything in the game. Chelsea really grew into the game, especially after the red card, and I think the boys battled manfully in the face of it.

Just as our attackers return from injury spells, our defence gets hit. It's 'conspiracy' territory. Can't let Arsenal have their full squad available, they'll cakewalk every competition.

You'd take 2 wins and a draw over a week against Spurs, Bayern and Chelsea any day.

We've got a decent run now over the Christmas/New year period:

Brentford (10th) H
Villa (4th) A
Wolves (20th) H
Everton (14th) A
Brighton (5th) H
Villa (4th) H
Bournemouth (11th) A

Very high tempo high energy match that we probably could’ve done without with the volume of injuries and a big few games in a row. I also think the referee didn’t control the temperature in the opening, first Arsenal foul on Zubimendi he deems a yellow despite a Chelsea getting away with a few prior.

Thankfully though the sheer stupidity of Caicedo saw him exit himself from the match. Bloke was a walking red card, from the opening he seemed on the angry pills. All that talk about Rice probably got to his head. And then he lost his head. Idiotic stuff the way he behaved.

Importantly for Arsenal we didn’t lose this. Gabriel and Saliba are arguably the best centre half partnership in the league (possibly the world) and despite not having either of them, I thought they held up very well in the face of a very spirited and energetic Chelsea side.

Arsenal were quite “gettable” this match and if it was 11 v 11 for the 90, it may have ended differently. To be well below your best but still come away with a point, this was something Arsenal weren’t able to do in recent seasons.

Take the point, maintain the distance over them at the top of the table, and now move forward with hopefully a win over Brentford in a few days time.

This is very true. 7 points from those three fixtures is a great return.
