Well ____ me. What a dead set disgrace that was. Fraudulent refereeing has cost us a place in the final 4. If the Kuyt/Hleb penatly wasnt given in the first leg then no penaltys should be given ever again, much less that one. What the ____ have we done to deserve this week in and week out. Every other week we see Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool get away with murder, yet we cannot sneeze without giving away a penalty and at the other end, nothing short of Adebayor having his head chopped off by a defender with a chainsaw is good enough to see us get a spot kick. ____ me.

That decision just sums up where we are at. The better side for 95% of the tie, yet we get rolled 5-3 due to a total con job.

We have been desperately unlucky through injurys to basically everyone in the squad, yet we found ourselves in a CL Quarter Final and only 6 points off the pace in the PL. Great effort with such a shallow squad.

I dislike both clubs but even I would say that the 2 penalty decisions was a major factor in the result of the tie....But thats Football!

Getting past that I thought it was a terrific match. Plenty of goals and plenty of highlights, one for the neutral supporter no doubt.

By the way how good was Walcott's run to set up Adebayor. Great stuff to get past 3 players and finish off with a nice pass. Hopefully there is more of that to come.

For f*cks sake. Liverpool win on sh*t ref decisions and poor defending. I'm so fed up with Arsenal playing 'good football' and not winning - FFS!! It's not worth playing good football if in the end it gets you nothing! This season in general has been absolutely shocking - 5 points up in the EPL, looking good in the UCL. Fast forward one and a half months and it has all gone - yet another season has eluded us. Anyone can say what they want about "well at least we played attractive football" etc etc - It's all absolute crap! I'd rather we resorted to long balls in matches and play scrappy at times and actually WIN games of football than to play "the best football in the world" and shoot ourselves in the foot by drawing 4 consecutive games in the league, and then getting ourselves kicked out of europe because we can't capitalise on the 20 opportunities we had in the first leg. The refs don't offer us any assistance with their inconsistency either.

Eboue is the worst right sided midfielder to have ever played for a top 4 club. Walcott comes on for 15 minutes and does 100x more than Eboue can muster in 70 minutes. How on earth a side midfielder who has played 30odd games this season for no goals and one assist can continue to find a spot in the team is unbelievable.

Wenger's youth policy is the worst going around at the moment. WTF does he persist with unproven 17 year olds and hacks for depth and starting positions, as opposed to AFFORDABLE TALENT is mind boggling and frustrating beyond belief. Stop being so f****** stingy and spend some money ffs. Does he not want us to win anything for the next 5 years???

Exactly - We would get much more use out of him if he played RB, which is what we should've done and Toure in the centre and that hopeless hack Senderos on the bench.

Here is what I posted in the Quarter final thread. Devastated is what I am at the moment.

Congratulations to Liverpool, it should be a great tie vs Chelsea in the Semi Finals.

Whilst I don't agree with the penalty, there is not much I can do about it. It was really poor defending anyway, as Babel shouldn't have been able to make a run like that.

My main gripe/s with the game are:

Why didn't Walcott start? He made the Liverpool team look like an under 16's side with that run to set up the equalizer.

Eboue is not a midfielder. He should've been at RB, Toure moved across to CB with Gallas, and Senderos relegated to the bench. Walcott shoud've started as the RM. Alas, though.

Oh, and Flamini is injured, too. Brilliant. No Sagna, no Eduardo, no Rosicky, no Flamini for the trip to OT....woot!

His form has been pretty bad at Barce, plus he doesn't even play in his desired position. He belongs in England - thats where the fans love him and he plays his best football. Rumours are going around that Chelsea and Newcastle are interested and ready to make offers.

No reason why we can't go back for him. He has a soft spot in his heart for us, and no doubt with him back we would be so much better.

Not successful but not unsuccessful. It will depend if it's the basis for silverware in the future.

I've felt sick all day. You need luck to win these trophies and lately it's all gone against us.

I can understand Walcott not starting, as we don't really have much in the way of spark players to come off the bench and he plays that role well. He should be cherry ripe to start next season and hopefully he can torment defenders like Overmars used to do what seems forever ago.

Hard question to answer. Our expectations at the start of the season weren't that great - we were tipped to struggle to make the top 4 and none of our players were rated very highly. Now, however, Fabregas, Flamini, Clichy, Adebayor and a couple more are considered to be genuine stars of the game - a great indicator of their individual progress and mentality to step up after the departure of one of our greatest ever players.

Ultimately, though, this season is a disappointment as we can't base it on others' preseason expectations of us, but rather our first third or so of the season in which we played fantastic football and were registering win after win. Especially to be flying high at the top of the table and playing the best football in the league for the first 2/3 or so of the season, and to miss out on winning the title after leading for so long, means that it is a disappointment and devestating for everyone associated with the club - as we had a great chance to win some silverware but we didn't take it. Luck, especially with injuries, certainly did not go our way and it's fair to say that winning titles requires a bit of luck.

Although IMO it is a disappointment, I'm not saying by any stretch that we have gone backwards - Arsenal is a fairly young team and players like Sagna, Clichy, Fabregas, Adebayor, Walcott and more will only improve in the coming seasons. No doubt we will be a strong contender next season if we add some quality to our starting lineup and squad by buying players we need.

Well we were. 1-1 in the first leg when realistically if a ref who wasn't mentally impaired was in charge we would have had a 90-95% chance of winning. But hey, the ref was mentally impaired, so we move onto the next leg at 1-1. A great match is played and with not long to go, the score is 2-2, and despite the more than likely goal from the first leg being stolen from us, we are still ahead on away goals. Then - a bit of shitty defending granted - it is proven that once again, we have been handed a ref with some form of impairment, and bang, there goes our Champos League chance. As for the fourth goal, that hardly counts when it's in injury time with all bar the keeper in the box for a free kick. The fact is, we were better than Liverpool, not only across the field, but also in terms of number of balls in the back of the net - oh except for that impairment.

Tell me this mate. If this happened to you, would you be saying 'Ahh well, that's football. We tried our darn-diddly-darndest but we just couldn't pull it off. The main thing is that we tried our best.'?

To answer your question Moomba.

Yes, I believe this season has been successful in many ways.

Firstly, most football fans thought we would struggle to make the top 4, and that Tottenham would finish above us on the table, which to me, was laughable at the time, and even more laughable now.

To be leading the ladder for most of the season is a big positive, to be still in the hunt for a top 2 finish is still a big positive, too. I predicted us to finish 2nd behind Chelsea at the start of the year, but I must admit, I had my doubts.

Onto the players. It's been a grea, successful year for most.

Sagna has been one of the best buys of the season. He is immense in his role at RB, and has developed a great attacking side to his game, and he has delievered a few goal assists for the likes of Adebayor and Eduardo.

Flamini has come on leaps and bounds and is still has room for improvement IMO. He has done some big jobs this year, and has past most of the tests put to him. I also must admit that I thought he wasn't good enough, and should've been sold last summer......so happy that I was wrong about that.

Adebayor has been immense as the sole striker this season due to the injuries of Van Persie and Eduardo, he has played very well as the main striker for Arsenal. Works hard every game, and during the middle part of the season he had scored in 12 straight appearances (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). Still has room for improvement, which is a big plus considering the awesome form he has been in this season. My only gripe with him is that he wastes more opportunities than he scores, but with more experience, he'll overcome that little hurdle.

Fabregas has transformed into one of the world's best CM. His start to the season helped propel us to the top of the ladder. Although he has been quietly lately, which is what you'd expect from a young player, he can still bob up and score important goals for the team, and set up others with gret delivery.

Gallas has been superb this season as well. He has relished in the Captain's role, and has scored some very important goals for us also. Wears his heart on his sleeve.

I guess it is disappointing in how we have fallen away since the Eduardo incident, and I can't help but think that had a huge impact on the players minds. It's all been downhill since then, and that is a little disappointing. However, if you were to say to me at the start of the season that we were still an outside chance of winning the EPL this season, I would've taken that.

To be honest, I think we are still in the race, but only if we can get the 3 points at OT on the weekend. United has to play Arsenal (H), Chelsea (A), Blackburn (A) (No slouches at home, and have caused United problems in the past at Ewood, West Ham (H) (Bogey team), and Wigan (A) (Seriously, they are rediculously good on that dung heap, they have the ability to take points off of United).

Chelsea have Man U (H), Everton (A) which is never an easy task, and Newcastle (A), who seem to have finally gelled with Keegan's gameplan.

Compare it with our run home of United (A), Reading (H), Derby (A), Everton (H) and Sunderland (A)

We have a much easier run home, and if we can get the 3 points from United, then we can definantely steal the title.

The league can still be won at this late stage, I know from experience. It's unlikely with three teams in the mix that a team in Arsenal's position could storm in to win, but anything could happen.

Yeah I don't either actually. I thought it made sense at the time, but I must be very tired. Basically my reasoning was 83 + 2 + 2 = 85. Easy mistake to make I guess.
