Welbeck and Iwobi worked really well last night together, been very impressed with Iwobi in the first team.

Welbeck has been good since he has been back from injury. He is never going to be a prolific striker, but he works so damn hard.

4 goals in 9 games since his return (3 in the EPL v. Leicester, United and Everton).

Compared to Giroud - no PL or UCL goals since the 3-3 at Liverpool. ******* woeful.

Saw a rumour (so don't take it seriously) that Giroud may be on the Juve shopping list if they don't get Cavani.

So I thought I would pose the question. How would we feel trying to pull in an elite striker, off load Giroud and keep Welbeck as our back up striker?

We are so much more dangerous with Welbeck upfront compared to the plodder Giroud, but what about defensive set pieces lol.

Would be ****ing brilliant if we could manage that.

Girouds a donkey?......now i've heard it all.

Walcott's a donkey. Giroud is a good player that blows hot and cold.

Welbeck needs to put more than 3-4 good games together (before getting injured again) and score more than 15+ goals in a season (which he's never done) before everyone starts giving him pats on the back.

Would be an odd move considering Juventus have Mandzukic, Dybala and Morata.

If we could work a deal with Real/Juventus to get Morata then possibly but thats going to be complicated.

Giroud isn't a donkey, he's just an average footballer - put most starting EPL strikers up front for us instead of Giroud and they hit a similar or greater number of goals. You really do need pace in this league as a forward and Giroud's total lack of it makes us predictable and easily nullified far too often. I advise anyone who disagrees to watch the Spurs v Dortmund highlights (both games) and see how a complete striker totally destroys a solid defensive unit time and again. It's not mandatory 100% of the time, but in this league and with how we play, we need pace up front.

Welbeck is number one for us now but shouldn't be number one in years to come. Just grateful one of our attacking players is finding the back of the net.

I'm glad that Welbeck is doing well, but I really hope Wenger isn't like "loook uhhhhh, ze Welbeck is doing well in Giroud position, sacrebleu, now we don't need to get a world class forward".
My exact concern too. Watch Wenger spin that crap and fail to sign a better striker.

Yep, he will definitely announce we're covered.
Only hope is that he knows Welbeck is a versatile player (play wing etc).
Walcott really needs to **** off.

Hey Theo..

You will never ever actually know that. For all we know, Aguero could be absolutely woeful for us. You can presume but you won't be proven correct or wrong. Like I've said countless times before, Giroud's role isn't primarily to score, it's to bring others in around him so that they can score. That's his role in this formation. If the players decide to hold onto the ball and pass it around the box and fail to deliver a good cross, how can you blame the centre forward for not getting the chances? Sure, he hasn't scored in a while. Even the best strikers have bad patches but he has been involved in some crucial games and helped assist some crucial goals.

No, we obviously can't know for sure. But you could confidently presume that these players would be far more clinical and create many more chances for themselves than Giroud. The amount of gilt-edged chances Giroud spurns in his scoreless patches is remarkable - Monaco last year, Swansea this season, Tottenham at home this season, etc etc etc. He's far too prone to bottling it mentally.

I agree, but aside from the Leicester game (where he had a fantastic match IMO) when has he actually played well and contributed in the last two months? He and Alexis have zero on-field chemistry. I'd be absolutely shocked if Giroud has laid off more than 1-2 league assists for Sanchez in the time they've played together.

The best strikers don't have 12 league/UCL game scoreless runs. That's an absolutely shocking return for a centre forward at a club pushing for a UCL position. Since the Anfield 3-3 he has notched only two assists (v. Bournemouth and Leicester) in 12 league/UCL games. ******* abysmal. He isn't a patch on a Higuain or any other world class striker. Nowhere ******* near it.

Players are allowed a bad game every now and then. I agree he hasn't been in the greatest of form lately though. I'd blame the lack of link up play with Sanchez more on Alexis than Giroud. He very rarely looks for that wall pass so it's hard to blame Giroud for that if it never happens plus the fact that because he cuts in on his right a lot, players have figured him out so its easier to intercept/force him to play backwards or sideways.

On Higuain and other strikers, the Serie A is quite a weak league, let's be honest, same with Bundesliga and even La Liga in comparison to the EPL. It's just far more competitive and it sees players struggling to score far more regularly than those other leagues.

The EPL is ****ing bang average, Leicester City is on top of it FFS, I hate this its a strong league crap.

I said most competitive. There's a difference. The rest of the leagues have 3 or Four teams that can actually have a realistic chance of winning the domestic league, some have less than that. Sure the EPL also has around four or 5 but the rest of the teams in the league have a good chance of beating the top sides hence why it's so unpredictable.
