Clubs can also now count a post-season rookie upgrade, from the rookie list to the senior list, as one of their compulsory three changes to the senior list, that must occur each year.

With the weakened draft I wouldn't be suprised to see us only take one or two players in the draft and look at upgrading Mumford and Laidler.
The following year could be similar if Varcoe can show a bit and one or two of the other rookies (Ranga if can get rid of injuries)

I think you will find you can use ONE rookie , so the minimum number of picks would be 2. This means we have the option of only clearing 4 spots , whether we decide to make more spots available will probably depend on player movement.

The other thing is , the ability to trade Rookies gives us the chance to perhaps add someone like Moles into any deal. So lets say for eg. Stokes and Moles to Sydney for R2 pick

Mumford and Laidler are both rookies promoted to senior list, not senior list players as such. This rule will be applied to them, meaning that we only have to delist 1 player (assuming Egan and Harley go). Before this rule change, we would have had to delist three.

I'm glad you raised this. I was going to talk about us hopefully trading a rookie or two. When you think about players like Davenport etc who have gone for nothing...if we have to offload fringe players in list management we can at least get something back for them.

Ranga will stay...we need to see what he can do injury free.
Moles is the interesting one...correct me if I'm wrong but he can't be re rookied b/c of his age? so I can't see a spot for him on the senior list so try and trade him. I think a club would want a guy of his talent.

Laidler has already been upgraded

But these are only temporary upgrades to cover players on the long term injury list for the rest of the season (or however long the injured player is out, must be at least 8 weeks).

Come the next year (i.e. 2010) you must upgrade the player if you want them on the senior list permanently.

The only exception to this rule is if you play one short on your list like Hawthorn did this year, you can nominate a rookie to be a senior list player without upgrading them.

And of course if we have a trade then there may need to be no delistings.

Would be interesting to think of who might be delisted (if any) though.

Yup I do believe you are correct. Went back and re-read it with a clearer head and the use of the singular does indicate only one upgrade can be counted.
Most likely use of this from what we have seen in 2009 would be Mumford.
This would put some pressure on Dawson and West over the next couple of years (assuming Blake is still around).
