If u were an Australian Selector what would ur test team be.
Mine is the following-

1.M.Hayden
2.D.Martyn
3.R.Ponting
4.M.Waugh
5.S.Waugh
6.B.Hodge
7.A.Gilchrist
8.S.Warne
9.B.Lee
10.J.Gillespie
11.G.McGrath

12th man: M.Slater

Not much point having Slater 12 man. Either he's in as an opener or out all together. Plus he's not the best in the field.

I'd go: Hayden, Cox, Martyn, M. Waugh, S. Waugh, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne, Gillespie, Lee, Ooh Ahh Glenn Mcgrath.

12th man Langer

I know it's rough on Langer, but I think we need a specialist opener to bring on looking ahead to the South African series. You won't be able to go in against their attack with part-time openers.
Ponting is better value as No. 6, he just looks a bit too nervous early in his innings as a No. 3, I'd like to see how Martyn goes as a No. 3 batsman

I agree with The Hippie, with the exception of Langer opening with Hayden. You couldn't drop Langer after his ton in his last test & his current form.

Blueworms - Martyn is OK opening in the one dayer, but not for the tests. Slaters form doesn't even warrant 12th man. This guy has hit the skids at present. Also, the selector prefer a bowler as 12th man. No one is standing out at the moment, but Brad Williams would have to be a rough chance.

1. Hayden
2. Langer
3. Ponting
4. M.Waugh
5. S.Waugh
6. Martyn
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9.Gillespie
10. B.Lee
11. McGrath

12th: Bracken.

I'm not a big fan of Lee but his bowling last week means he deserves a spot. I put Bracken ahead of Fleming as Flem is not fully fit, if he was I'd consider him for the side.

How can you pick Slater over Langer mase? Slater has been crapola recently whilst Langer has scored several tons, clearly indicating he is in form. Slater has had his chance and he lost it...

For the record:

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
M Waugh
S Waugh
Martyn
Gilchrist (even though his form lately with the bat is crap)
Warne
B Lee
Gillespie
McGrath

12th Man: Collin Miller

On 12th man, it will be a bowler, just not sure who. Depends on what type of wickets there is going to be. Obviously at the WACA fast bowlers will be the go and at a few others around Australia also, so it could be a toss up between Collin Miller for the extra spin bowler or a pace bowler though I'm not really sure who is in form.

S. Waugh
Ponting
Gillchrist

12th - Miller

I agree with you about Martyn Hippie.

I would give Lee one test and if he doesn't perform, surely Fleming is due for another run in test cricket after not getting a run in England.

Probably right about having a bowler as 12th man, but i disagree with u on Martyn not opening.

At state level he opens regulary and does very well and u cant say he cant play that position at test level because he is pretty much unproven. If Langer can open, why cant he. I say give him a go.

This is mine
1.Hayden
2.Blewett(prefer him in middle order but has hammered South Africa before and provides a right and left combination.)
3.Martyn
4.M.Waugh
5.S.Waugh
6.Ponting
7.Gilchrist
8.Warne
9.Gilespie
10.Fleming
11.Mcgrath

And this is how I hope it looks by the time the Waughs retire

M.Elliot
M.Hayden or Slater if he gets his act together
Blewett
Martyn
Ponting
Hodge
Gilchrist
Warne if hes still around
Lee
Johnson
Mcgrath if he still around.;)

I hope Katich is ready for a real go by then.

He only made 19 on Sunday against Tasmania on a batters paradise (Langer, Martyn and Goodwin all got tons) plus he's thrown his wicket away a few times in the one day games.

My 1st test team:

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Waugh M
Waugh S
Martyn
Gilchrist
Lee B
Warne
Gillespie
McGrath

12th man: Andy Symonds

Well not one of us got 12th man right...a few got the starting 11.

The team for the 1st test is:
Hayden
Langer
Ponting
M.Waugh
S.Waugh
Martyn
Gilchrist
Warne
Gillespie
B.Lee
McGrath

12th Man:.....Bichel

I can only assume because it's in Queensland there is some clause that says a Queensland fast bowler has to be in the squad...or the recent Ansett collapse means they can't afford to fly another person up. Never mind Bracken, Fleming and Miller.....next time....maybe
