Firstly, they will be bombing desert in the middle of nowhere, and won't be using chemical or nuclear weapons, so the environmental impact is nil.

Secondly, it will enhance interoperability and relations between the US and Australian Air Force's.

Thirdly, it will further enhance the overall relationship of Australia and the US.

If you're looking for a protest, I suggest you try your local Arts faculty.

Ok since your brain dead i'll try and explain it to you easily, you have a stadium of 72,000 right, about 45,000 of them are greek, they all start chanting his name, how much of the greek population is that????? greece is 11 million, the media completely took the ******** out of him, the greek media even called him a liar and a fake, so dont be taking things to seriously their matey, 90% of greeks in a newspaper poll after the olympics said he should be kicked out of the country.

Why do I say that?

Well, quite a fair bit of my extended family live in Adelaide. Recently in the Bulletin, an article was released saying that as a result of the nuclear testing out at Maralinga, that a toxic cloud was produced and given normal wind conditions, Adeliade went through a period where the toxic cloud had an effect.

To sum it up, my extended family lived in Adelaide when the cloud was there and my Mum holidayed there regularly as a child at that time. So many of mum's aunties and uncles, plus her father, have died of cancer over the last 15-20 years.

Is it a coincidence that these factors combined? Maybe. But, it sure explains a fair bit from my mum's POV and it something that we need to be made more wary of.

If so, what harm is there that we share a remote area with an allie who might just also share some of their most sophisticated military equipment/training on the planet with our Armed forces?

After all, isn't that what we want from our armed forces, for them to be equipped with the best equipment and training available? IF (as many here seem to believe) we're going to be attacked one day, wouldn't you want the best possible defensive force available for Australia's protection?

So long as it's not nuclear or biological it seems to be a pretty logical extentsion of allied co-operation.

"We weren't being taken fully into the Americans' confidence," Mr Rose told the ABC's Investigative Unit. "We weren't being trusted in a way which ought to exist between organisations with common goals."

He says the result was that "you're providing such low-grade information, routine information, that it's not really of any great use in Australia".

"I think in hindsight it's pretty clear that for a period, the willingness to share high-grade intelligence had been largely withdrawn," Mr Rose added.

Who then is in control of our country, us or those that dicate to us on how/who we allie with? Bali bombers demand we cancel the alliance, do we jump to their commands? Or do we stand firm in our belief of democracy and right to choose our own allies? If we take the first option isn't that a quasi-alliance (or merely kow-towing) to the Bombing group and their interests?

Correct and thats what does concern me..do I stand back and let some show of strength or do I protest the lot? As I said its the crux which I dont know which way to go. Well that's something I guess you'll have to sort out for yourself. My pov is that alliances are (mostly) a good thing. That we're identified (falsely again only my pov) as America's 'little brother' is a perception that I'd let others worry about rather than give them to much credence myself. I think Australia stands for itself on the whole, reasonably well. What I also want though is the capability to not ever have to 'lie down' and for that, we need 'bigger brothers'. Not just the U.S either.

There are many ways of allying without it having to be militarily. In this instance though, it is a military (or part thereof) alliance that I think can be beneficial to us.

Fwiw though the reply was from a previous administration period and not really reflective of how the current/proposed set-up will be.

Of course it'd be preferable for all countries to not need to undergo military excersises of the ones proposed. Yet if you've got a way for the whole world to disarm and live together in unity, I'd love to see it happen. Until then, we're stuck with the system as it is.
