What the differences between the grades in the VAFA. What can be the highest grade possible that a club in D4 section make it to?

Unless you have a great structure, and recruit well, a D4 side is probably unlikely to go up to A Grade.

The best it can hope for would be D1/D2 and then see how well they go. And even then, it would take 20 years plus to achieve it.

It's a lot easier to fall down the grades than go up.

Elsternwick, now on top in D4, have won A Grade flags in the past. Ormond, who were the biggest club in Amateur footy just 15 years ago, are now in D1 and just starting to come back. University Blacks are heading a similar way. Old Essendon have also climbed over the last 10 years.

According to my contact in the Eastern League (he plays @ Lilydale), D. Bourke is still at Vermont and their galaxy of ex-AFL players.
Bourke is with the galaxy of ex-AFL stars at East Burwood. He only stayed at Vermont for one injury riddled season.

Can anyone confirm the rumour that David Bourke (son of Frances) has pulled on the boots for Old Essendon?

How is Seth Dixon going at Collegians? Has he recovered from his bruised ego yet?

It wasn't a bruised ego Diamond, it was a torn gooch!

Ryan Heritage has been licking it every second night to help the healing process!

Once again Diamond, you info appears to be completely wrong. I think you should rename yourself "Cubic Zirconia8"

Just wondering if the "winter blues" have hit your club yet?

I've heard rumours around HQ that a lot of clubs are finding it tough to field teams on the weekend and that training numbers have hit record lows!

How is your club looking over the next 4-6 weeks?

No such problems at the Reds.
Too many candidates to squeeze into 4 senior teams! (Sen/Res/C18.II/C18.III)

FYI, all 5 teams [inluding U19's] in the top 4

Going great guns

Slitherin Snake, all I remember is standing behind the goals at the Centreway East Oval and witnessing a rubbery like, 6ft 3"ish type dominate the full back position.

The first thought that came to mind was David Bourke. Unfortunately the second was Quentin (Boy with the chalk-like bones)

Things that you go hmmmmm............

Interesting turn of events at VAFA HQ Tuesday night, kangaroo court in full session, always a lottery awaiting the decisions from upstairs but this was unique.

Player turns up on a charge of kicking and is asked how he pleads. Player indicates he would prefer to plead not guilty to kicking and cop 6 as this is quite a serious charge. However if the charge were to be downgraded he would then in turn plead guilty.

Player, did you kick him? Yes
Umpire did you see him kick him? Yes
Witness, were you kicked? Yes

Tribunal considers this novel approach to plea bargaining and then decides to down grade the charge "because it is only clubbies" and impose a 2 match ban for "rough play", with the foot.

The big news at HQ last night was that O'Dwyer trained strongly and is back this week after missing last week with calf injury. This week I head out to Bulleen to wave the flags for cross swamp rivals Trinity and Marcellin. Marcellin should be too strong and will walk away with the 4 points (Sorry Scirbe :p ). In other matches this weekend, the Cardinals host old Haileybury. The Cardinals will be desperate not to lose touch with the top 4 and that will get them over the line. Old Xavs make their way to the Snake Pit, where more people are jumping ship than the Titanic. Old Xavs by heaps! The OC who almost caused upset of the millenium last week will shock the boys from the Junction oval and the students will easily account for a St Kevins Club XVIII.

In B grade action this week, De La Salle will give NOBS a football lesson, St Bedes will climb off the bottom of the ladder with a win over Mazenod (Don't prove me wrong Benny MOF  ), Caulfield at home will beat Whitefriars who went AWOL last week and Old Ivanhoe will be too good for MHSOB. Match of the round is out at Keilor Hill this week where OE take on the Tonners. OE have finally hit my straps and my tip is for them to make it 3 in a row!

Good luck to all teams this weekend.

All clear thanks! :D

Right you are Nuff Nuff, great coverage of all the upcoming action for this weekend in the amateurs. I'm hoping to put in an absolute blinder this saturday in an effort to redeem my actions from last week in which I was unable to take the field for turning up intoxicated. I just couldn't resist the friday night action at Room 608 and paid for it the next day. So with that, Caulfield will get over the Friars tomorrow and help to fight off the relegation pack which is emerging as a real tussle.

P.S. Does a redhaired goat produce red cheese???

Have you been discplined with a run in the magoos or are you straight back into the main game? What is your club's stance on drinking before a game? I know personally I don't like to drink in the 48 hours leading up to a game but some umpires swear on a nightcap the night before a game to calm the nerves. ;)

We always get ourselves up for Whitefriars, we both eminate from the ACC school comp, so the rivalry starts there and we had some tremndous tussles in 2002 (C Grade) and 2003 (B Grade). THe Tigers are on the rise.....

Nuffy I thought I'd got away with my Room 608 antics (which mind you is a Melbourne version of the Room 208 Parties on Channel V in Sydney) until I put my right boot on my left foot and then the game was up. The coach pulled me back during the warm-up, dragged me into the showers and hosed me down with cold water. It was probably my most embarrassing moment really.

Caulfield are pretty strict with drinking in the lead-up to the games, no hard stuff is sold on thursday after training and players are expected to continue that through to the games. I personally thinks it's rubbish and love to hit the juice late in the week as a kind of relaxation similar to the nightcaps you talk of.

One Bar, never heard of it. It sounds classy though, do I need a glamour model on my arm like the Herald Sun informed me of yesterday in its article on Melbourne clubs? How do the umpires go with the ladies, have you hooked up with any female boundry and field umpires that take the field in the VAFA?

Tonight I'll probably keep it low key and have a few pale ale's at the local Glenferrie Hotel. I hit the gas hard tuesday night at Cheers following the end of exams at Swinburne Uni.
