Sorry Pineapple I thought I was still talking with the nuffmister...If your not an umpire then what are you, a thief?

I know this will never happen, but what do you think the chances of the VAFA ever lifting their alcohol ban during matches ?

I regularly go to Diamond Valley games, and the size of the crowds there puts the Amateurs to shame. At a Montmorency vs Eltham game last year, there were several thousand people at the game, wives, kids, dogs the works. A really good day. Is this purely because they serve alcohol, and the Ammos don't ? Not sure, but it would have to be a factor.

The same local derby in the Ammos attracts nowhere near that many people. Admittedly you do get the odd unsavoury incident at DV games, but they are much less frequent than people think. The atmosphere was excellent.

I wonder if there would ever be a change to allow the selling of alcohol, say in a specified wet area ? The clubs would be forced to comply, and just like now, those that don't, will be harshly punished. It would also mean that revenue from sales would go straight to the club, not to the local pub.

Any thoughts ?

One Bar, never heard of it. It sounds classy though, do I need a glamour model on my arm like the Herald Sun informed me of yesterday in its article on Melbourne clubs? How do the umpires go with the ladies, have you hooked up with any female boundry and field umpires that take the field in the VAFA?

Tonight I'll probably keep it low key and have a few pale ale's at the local Glenferrie Hotel. I hit the gas hard tuesday night at Cheers following the end of exams at Swinburne Uni.

Tell me Knightrider, have you visited Concrete Bar? I've heard its a huant for the Old Carey football club.... (and Mobensausage, secretly spying on them to get team info for the Reds) . Me and the band thinking about cruising down for a few midori and lemonades tonite.

JT I know a couple of the boys from the Panthers quite well actually as a few do the same Swinburne course as me. They have told me about Concrete Lounge (not bar!) but as yet I haven't been to check it out. Friday nights is Jungle/Soul-O music so I'll give it a miss, I'm not one for the bongos.

New club Goldy on Clarendon St has been doing good things on a Friday night. I might be dropping in for a couple of quiet one's tonight but won't be staying too late with our big game against OM's @ HQ tomorrow. If you are having trouble getting in, just mention Jono Dixon's guest list.

just like to say cant wait until SKOB are relegated again - there always got a bit of talk cant produce on the field. watched their school team play bloody well the last two weeks and get done, bad luck

Who has jumped/is jumping off?

While warming down after training at HQ last night I overheard a conversation that made mention of a very public dispute at the snake pit in the last couple of weeks and as a result one of Maddern's assistant coaches has quit the club.

That's the beauty of the Ammo's, not that many reptiles at the games. They don't pay their players so don't need to sell grog to cut the mustard.

It disgusts me how many ordinary players put their hands out for up to $200 a week.

Right you are Nuff Nuff, great coverage of all the upcoming action for this weekend in the amateurs. I'm hoping to put in an absolute blinder this saturday in an effort to redeem my actions from last week in which I was unable to take the field for turning up intoxicated. I just couldn't resist the friday night action at Room 608 and paid for it the next day. So with that, Caulfield will get over the Friars tomorrow and help to fight off the relegation pack which is emerging as a real tussle.

P.S. Does a redhaired goat produce red cheese???

Rumour from Caulfield spy Kornhole Dachs is that Knight Rider will be punished for his terrible form on the dance floor by making a return through the magoo's on a wing.

Knight Rider's demotion sounds starngely similar to Andy Symonds' suspension, except I doubt Knight Rider's getting $250K under the table for his services.

Ordinarily, I'd say to Knight Rider, when your club is struggling to re-establish itself in the upper ecehlon, you should be looking after yourself (and consequently your team-mates) better by putting the handbrake on after hours on Friday. However, in the current context, perhaps some latitude is required.

Actually, no - no excuse. KR, cop your whack and learn from it.

As for the alcohol issue, it's like a Detour on the Amazing Race - each has its pros and cons. You would probably get bigger crowds if you serve booze to the public, but whether they'd be better crowds is questionable.

There is no fooling you Triangle, Maussy has banished me to the magoos indefinately for my drunken behaviour last week. However, I feel this will only cause me to increase my drinking on friday nights as I wage a war against the bottle!

Reds struggled, especially in 1st (from reports) and 3rd quarters, but eventually snuck home by 77pts. Maghamez v B-T's 'Billy' was a sight to behold, with Billy keeping Kane under wraps until the last quarter. Cianci kicked a bag.

All other grades also won except for one of the Clubbies teams.

The big news at HQ last night was that O'Dwyer trained strongly and is back this week after missing last week with calf injury. This week I head out to Bulleen to wave the flags for cross swamp rivals Trinity and Marcellin. Marcellin should be too strong and will walk away with the 4 points (Sorry Scirbe :p ). In other matches this weekend, the Cardinals host old Haileybury. The Cardinals will be desperate not to lose touch with the top 4 and that will get them over the line. Old Xavs make their way to the Snake Pit, where more people are jumping ship than the Titanic. Old Xavs by heaps! The OC who almost caused upset of the millenium last week will shock the boys from the Junction oval and the students will easily account for a St Kevins Club XVIII.

In B grade action this week, De La Salle will give NOBS a football lesson, St Bedes will climb off the bottom of the ladder with a win over Mazenod (Don't prove me wrong Benny MOF  ), Caulfield at home will beat Whitefriars who went AWOL last week and Old Ivanhoe will be too good for MHSOB. Match of the round is out at Keilor Hill this week where OE take on the Tonners. OE have finally hit my straps and my tip is for them to make it 3 in a row!

Good luck to all teams this weekend.

All clear thanks! :D

Fairly ordinary A grade tipping by myself, only tipping 3 winners. Much better tipping in B grade tipping 4 out of 5 with the boys from Keilor Hill letting me down again!

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in Bulleen, Marcellin didn't get out of 2nd gear as they defeated Trinity by 32 points. Maclaren was dangerous all day kicking 4 majors for the eagles, while Walsh kept his side in touch kicking 3. The usual suspects of Considine, Dobson and Bortolottlo were best for the eagles, while McPherson, Healy and Walsh worked hard all day for the green and gold.

Yeah - 'bout right.

Be fair to say we copped the biggest pasting of Carlso's 6 year tenure after the match. Even worse than after the 2 point loss to Jono's boys. Lack of intensity from both sides was apparent, but the Eagles managed to have far more contributors to what was an otherwise ordinary match of footy. Frankly, you can't just blanket Cullinan (as Beardo did beautifully) as they've unearthed more goal-kickers and their midfield regained the run they lacked last week.

Shame Trinity couldn't keep Nuffy busier!!

No point looking backwards, onwards to the Bloods at HQ on Sunday.

;)

What a rip-snorter, ass-tickler, touchdown game from the Fields against the less than impressive Friars of Donvale at the weekend. I found it very hard to watch my boys take the points against an A Grade side, but hopefully I'll be back next week and redeem myself like Symonds has for the Aussies!

The boys have got their tails up and will push hard for the 4th spot in the finals after the draw is right open following the loss by OE's. I think it's goodbye NOBS as well now.

How did you go at One Bar big pineapple. Cut 'em up?

Knight Rider, are you set for an immediate recall after smashing the Friars in the 2nd's??? What is the story in B-grade? Way I see it, The Friars falling apart, NOBS gawn and St Bede's on the march.

What a glorious afternoon it was for amateur football on Saturday. Got me in the mood for exercise so i thought i'd help out the magoos by pulling on the white's and running the boundary. Shirt was four sizes too small, but only served to make my shoulders and cannons look huge. And didn't the crowd love it!

In the afternoon took the de facto's two billy lids down to the park for a kick of the footy. Paid the price yesterday though and could do little more than sprawl out on the picnic rug and enjoy sipping some heinz big red chunky tomato soup out of the new thermos.

One Bar was so good on Friday night that I backed up and went there again on Saturday night. Only problem was that I took the missus on Saturday night and we had a massive fight after I got caught flirting on the dance floor and showing girls my abs. Sometimes I think about giving her the boot like a big 60m barrel!

I was hoping for a dominant performance in the magoos following my ban, but once again I kicked on to Room after friday night drinks and didn't get home until 4am. I was up again at 9am for the game and was seeing 2 balls when running for the contest.

We are on the march following a couple of impressive wins, and Friars seem a spent force following their relegation and won't be part of September action one would think. Poor NOBS, the ever consistant B Grade club finally seem destined for the VAFA scrap heap, not even the loaf at FF can stop this bakery from going belly up!

MobenFunkster, you seem to be getting very cocky in your match reports. Let's not forget that you are in D grade and that Swan Hill's under 14's would go close to winning a D grade ammo's flag.
