How are those Euroa boys going at trianing Scribe. I hear they are on top of the GVFL ladder and have a big game this week. Euroa (1st possie) v's Seymour (2nd possie).

We're astounded and amazed at how those guys manage to play such good quality footy on such little preparation. They certainly whip out the cotton wool early on a hard Tuesday night!! Obviously there's a lot of talent in their ranks - their crisp skills when they actually do a full session are warmly welcomed.

Shelton is really travelling well now, and he's joined Thomson, S. Clayton, Hamill and Bamford as the real workhorses who usually put in well both nights. Hyatt, Grainger, Howse and Jansz are doing just enough to get by, but we've barely see Gibson in weeks (saw on the GVFL thread that he was injured).

From what we hear, it's a 3 horse race in the GVFL with Mansfield's home ground advantage enough to see them up there as well. This weekend's game should be a cracker and, if there's no snow, then the crowd might be bolstered with a few of our boys enjoying a road trip and some rare cans of VB during a game of footy (though we should be down at HQ to support Rambo)!

;)

Good day to you all...long time reader, first time...blah blah blah.

I remember that Fraser Cameron from uni...once a rooster always a rooster by the sounds.

Hi All,

Posting from my hotel in sunny Cairns today. 25 degrees and just beautiful.

My boys had a great win over Hampton in the mud, and we're now 7 - 5. But with 4 team's on the same points, it's going to be as tight as old friend virgin mary's **** come finals time.

Noticed some shock results for you boys up in A & B. OC well done on the great upset over the Eagles. Though i hear you got cold feet on your recent date and never called. Knightrider, very stiff against the top team. Big game against OE's next week who only just got over the bottom team by 10 points.

Moobenfookenheimer seems to have gone completely to ground after recent abuse from several poster's. Perhaps just getting the ego in check.

Heading off to PNG later in the day before making our way by plane to Kokoda to begin the trek first thing tomorrow. Will keep your posted on our progress along the way if i get the chance.

Picnic

I hear the ladies are quite large in PNG, chances are that we may see you return with one of these plumpers plucked from the mud of the Kokoda trail. All the best over there my ginger pubed friend.

Have been in Tassie for a holiday. I don't have an ego. I'm just incredibly grouse.

Actually I got a close up look at a wedge-tailed ego trying to carry away roadkill from right beside our car while on the trip.

Also running scared of Glen Eira FC. Anyone who can defeat Prahran must obviously be the most powerful sentient being in the cosmos.

Someone did say earlier that they were hard-hit by injury and would become a force later. Well, they may have left it too late to make the finals, but it seems they are, at least, getting themselves off the tarmac.

Look out the next couple of weeks for the media watching umpires. 25m penalties and yellow cards will hit a new time high as they all jump on the issue of the week bandwagon (esp the 2s umpires). How many times have we seen this happen before - well you have been warned keep your mouths shut.

Good call *Crash* ! I will be telling my boys to shut their mouths and just play the footy. Hopefully we have another wet one tomorrow so that the game decided by the team who wants it more. Not an umpire who is on a mission to get publicity for his ego :D !

Don't know his name but there's 1 gimp umpire (tall guy - looks like he couldn't make the volleyball team) who pays about 100 frees a game and gives about 20 25m penalties for no apparent reason. He'll have a field day with this backchatting publicity.

VCFL were a class above the rep side today.

Dean Talbot (ex-Coburg captain) was dominant down back and despite not being the captain of the team itself, was the general out there.

Flaherty looks a handy mid-sized forward. Can take strong marks.

Surprised they chose not to play Cullinan. He could have been handy today up forward.

What about the curtain raisers?

Some sort of lead-in that tomatoes!

First one was Collegians U/19s v De La U/19s which I umpired.

Tight battle throughout, but, young eddiesmith down at the scoreboard had the clinching goal from the boundary, which put Collegians in front by the goal they eventually won by (7.9 to 6.9).

Chatted to De La senior coach (and U/19's runner) Adrian Connolly afterwards. He was saying the De La seniors are appreciating the week off.

Then we had the FIDA City v Country match...which saw the City easy winners.

Great to be back in good old 'Oz. Thoroughly recommend any one (or footy team) to do the Kokoda Trek! Hardest thing i've done in my life, but really character building and definately worth it. Went with a good group too, except for the 1st night when some pr!ck ate all the food rations.

OC (or is that Shallow Hal), for your information i did meet a couple of larger ladies on the trip, but i found them all to be exceptionally beautiful despite their size. I exchanged numbers with several, and one is coming out to Melbourne in August. She's really into AFL footy, and even plays full back for one of the local teams. I've offered to chaperone her when she comes out, and said i'd take her to a game at the 'G.

Disappointing to see the VAFA go down. Have heard of this Flaharty guy, has been getting plenty of press in the local rag. Apparently tried out for a rookie list at Essendon with Lovett, Lovett-Murray and Hawthorn's Brad Sewell. Pazza, who else went well for VAFA?

Finally, overheard a guy at the airport saying the Cleveland Cavaliers were going to change their name to the 'Steamers'. Any-one else heard of this?

Corrigan was probably the Ammos best. Outside of him, Rice and Beven were very good, whilst Ramsden was his usual self.

The biggest problem the Ammos had all day was they tried to do too much for the ball. Hope in particular seemed to have far too many disposals without doing much with them.

You could really notice the difference between how the 2 teams played. The Country boys had a real system. They seemed to be better prepared (guess playing inter-league carnivals can be advantageous in that regard...the players know each other well etc) and the early decision to not play Cullinan, Reynolds, McKenzie-McHarg, Credlin, Waters and Ryan made it damn hard to have any real forwards. They were virtually forced to play Crow in the ruck, with Ramsden to provide the tall option up forward. Putting Liddell on from the bench nearing half-time was a surprise.

I also heard about this name on the ESPN website. You can find more details about the name change on the basketball section of big footy.

The Cleveland Steamers... rolls off the tongue nicely!

Pazza very true about the styles of football, too many VAFA players think getting 30+ possessions is the sign of a great player without realising that many of the touches are useless and detrimental to the teams performance!

Mr Picnic, great to hear you spent $5,000 in having the ability to use a shovel to take a dump!

Pineapple, I hear that's not the only steam on the menu...

Myself, went to Room, The Hawthorn, The Glenferrie over the weekend, really loved the bye and looking forward to a massive game against OE's!

If your A-Grade side were to be likened to an AFL side, who would they be....

Uni Blues-St Kilda
The glamour side of the comp. Long history of good times off the field but only recently got their act together on the field as well. Have a talented list envied by all, and a coach who is a bit different to the norm.

Old Xavs-Brisbane
Extremely successful and everyone hates them for it, and is jealous of their incredible run. Also as a result, they're arrogant like their Brisbane cousins.

St Bernards-Essendon
Dominated H&A football for a number of years, but has just one flag to show for it. Both have supporter groups who can be quite painful to listen to.

Marcellin-Adelaide
Both recently "stole" flags on the back of dynamic midfields, then failed to have the impact they should have in the years following. Both keep finding talented juniors and enjoy top shelf facilities.

Old Trinity-Fremantle
In recent years both have been touted as "the next big thing" but despite promising much have failed to deliver. Both fail to fully utilise the considerable talent at their disposal. Serial underachievers.

Old Scotch-West Coast
Two clubs that have no excuse not to be successful. Plenty of money to spend on off-field resources, and though there have been recent finals disappointments, this year is shaping up as a chance.

Collegians- Sydney
Boring sides who's hard work ethic has earned them results over and above what their talent would normally get them. Both coached by great blokes.

Haileybury-Richmond
Slightly feral element about them both, and each has a game plan built around talls that is working in 2005. Their coaches have rampant egos.

SKOB- Western Bulldogs
Has a talented group of core senior players who have carried the club for a long time but question marks remain over the middle tier players. Both have simple facilities and regret missed opportunities in recent times.

Old Melburnians-Melbourne
Not similar, they are in fact the SAME club

What are we here on this forum, a place for your cast-offs??? The Sheik published this piece from you last week. It's just not that funny or observant that it needs repeating! Get some new material.

I say we just start it up here... my vote is James Heritage from Collegians.

A real stinker of a bloke.

Very, very nice post. I have sent it to Carl. I agree with Big Pineapple about the locking of the ordinary blokes thread. Obviously some poor, soft, whiny, little man didn't like what he saw and had to run to the mods. Weak dog. In my world he'd now be a marked man. In fact if you know who it was let me know on here and I will "take care of business" wink, wink.

In terms of ordinary blokes, surprised no one mentioned Theodore from OM's. In fact both of the Theodore brothers.

Heritage, is that the guy that played for Old Essendon???

Speaking of Old Essendon and ordinary blokes, a regular 2's player by the name of Parker surely has to take the cake. Who does he think he is with his shiny BMW, absolutley kidding himself.

I also hear he likes Mr Picnic's scraps......?

I concur with that vote, although I have heard that the Collegians player traded for Heritage isn't much better. Can anyone shine some light on this?

You will pay for locking the 10 worst blokes in the VAFA forum.

It's the only thread of any comical interest.
