Absolutely gutting news to hear, footy is so secondary to this type of stuff.

Hard to process/express on a footy forum but just wanted to get this out there: am currently doing my psych masters while working in disability care and 100% believe in these results:

In contrast to older data from the 70-80s, current studies indicate that committing to and following through on literally any type of therapy promotes the best outcomes for mental health.

In other words, the act of seeking and committing to therapy is statistically so much more influential than the type of therapy it actually is. The caveat being: it's got to feel right for you.

Seeing a psychologist, seeing a community counsellor, group therapy, couples therapy, hypnotherapy, mates counselling programs, anything. It's not that the data invalidates one type of therapy over another, it's that if it feels right for you, the act of committing to it is going to give you the best results possible.

Sounds counterintuitive as a prospective psychologist but honestly, for men especially I would encourage everyone to open themselves up to whatever type of help they need. If you're hesitating or unsure, the act of just committing to seeking help is the biggest step of all.

If anyone does want anything specific or any ideas for directions please feel free to pm. Love to all you footy nuffies out there.
So true. I’ve had in and off depression for years and last year losing dad and falling out with work and leaving a good job stuck me in a hole. I didn’t wait like I have in the past, sought help and although I only had a few sessions it’s like a weight lifts off you.

They reframe you and get you to go back to basics and do the little things that make you happy in life that you just stop doing because you are stuck in your head.

Rest up Adam, as a dad and a brother my heart hurts for the family left behind. Especially his beautiful kids who have to face this world without their dad in their corner.

I'll remember Adam Selwood as a tough as nails uncompromising team first player who never took a short step. Blocking shepherding tackling and smothering were his bread and butter.

As for everyone saying it ain't weak to speak.

Plenty of blokes are speaking, but is anyone listening?

How many more men have to take their own lives before we realise the way men are spoken about and treated is a major problem in our society. Think first before you tell your son he's mansplaining , think first before you call your father toxic. It all takes its toll.
Perfectly said, catch phrases aren't working.

Awful. His poor family, I think the twin thing has just made it so much harder, there’s an identical twin talking about losing his twin on another fora and he said he lives day by day and every day is grey.

Vale Adam, absolute bloody brilliant footballer who took on jobs for the club that were often near impossible and never took a single solitary backwards step. Not one.

I'm glad the AFLW season hasn't started yet as this news would have rocked the girls. Especially Swanny and Hooker who he would have had a lot to do with in the early days of the AFLW team.

Absolutely flat as a tack, gut punch to see such a well-liked and respected person with a loving family still lose the battle to the black dog.

Hug your loved ones, talk to your friends and ask them how they are doing. Make those little efforts because you never know when someone you know is one bad moment away from doing something irreversible.

Went to swim some laps down at the pool at Scabs and was thinking (as you do) whilst going up & down the lanes.

(Before I start I know it is way too early to formalise anything & this is just spitballing)

Knowing we have very little participation in any yearly game, maybe us & Brisbane (fellow est 1986 clubs) should play a stand alone game each year (alternating hosts?) in the same round as the Danny Frawley game for mental health (or men's mental health?) to honour Adam and Troy. Selwood.

I was hoping that we'd have a second fixture against Brisbane later this year but it doesn't look like it (unless of course we play them in the finals... 😜)

Anyway... I'll just let that stew.

P.S. (off topic)

In my musings I also wondered what happened to the WCE v Sydney HMAS Sydney game. It looks like it was played last year - but I don't really remember it being mentioned for the last few.
