If Griffen is worth 4 and 7, what is Beams worth?

Well - About 2 weeks ago he was worth his weight in gold as our 2nd best player, behind only Pendles.
Now apparently he isn't worth a hot dog & small coke.

Griffen is not worth 4 and 7 no matter what they say, never spoken about as being in the elite list of midfielders. Very good player worth an early pick, but he's what 28? And gets a decent amount of soft tissue niggles

Fair point. Makes you wonder how he can value Beams at 5 and 25, just yesterday, and maintain any sort of credibility.

That's what I meant, he has been an absolute champ in the game, but unfortunately he couldn't keep it up

When he's not stealing oxygen he is chasing ambulances, or perhaps does both at the same time. Griffin used to play fantastic football against us, but hasn't his standard of play declined in recent years?

I don't rate Beams as highly as most of you guys.
I don't see him win games of footy for us like truly elite players do.
That said, he is/was our second best player though at age 24 with 6-8 years left in him.

He's worth more than 5 and 25

He is possibly worth a bit less than pick 5 and say Redden/Hanley/Rockliff/ Aish

And therein lies the sticking point with both sides desperate not to lose face in the very public standoff.

As a general rule, I think picks are overrated and established stars are correspondingly underrated.

So many picks just don't kick on anywhere near expectation as we all know.

People think there's a huge difference between picks 1 and 5 or picks 15 and 25 or whatever.

They're pretty much all just a gamble.
Watts and Kreuzer picks 1, Beams 29, Swan 58, Hird 78 or whatever.

If I was chief recruiter, I'd regularly trade the promise of draft picks for the reality of known commodities.

The Pies need a player to replace Beams' known output, I am pleased we want more than the unpromised hope that 5 and 25 may or may not deliver down the track.

Tough from here to get a deal as I can totally understand Brisbane not wanting to let go a star young player, just as their list is now full of promise, after a dreadfully lean patch for several years.

I think both sets of supporters should understand each other's sides needs.

There is a legitimate impasse here, it's no-ones fault as I see it IMHO.

Agree on both picks are over rated and that Beams is not worth pick 5 and Aish/Mayes/Reddan ext. But he is better than pick 5 and Brisbanes 2nd tier of players. I have a a feeling we might get pick 5, their third round pick and some useless player like Lester

If Lester and crisp are stars or potential ones too then yagmoor or most definitely is.
