Vandenberg you weak prick

The Hawks were about 5 goals down when the fight started, they were still in with a chance (admittedly a slim one) of winning the game.

After the fight they refused to man up, refused to run, refused to put their head over the hard ball, and conceded 7 goals in the next 10 minutes playing time. If Hawthorn wanted respect, they had to show they had the guts to stand next to the men they were just fighting against and put their bodies on the line in the contests. Instead they decided to run around the outside of the action like sheepdogs, watching their opposition tear them to pieces. Tough? Don't think so.

I often hear AFL footballers talk about how mental toughness is so important. That because all of the footballers are so evenly matched physically, it's what's between the ears that separates the good and ordinary sides. Unfortunately for Hawthorn, they have shown they are mentally weak, and opposition clubs now know it. If Hawthorn thought it was tough on Saturday, it's only just begun.

Hey Hawk fans, if you want to see Bomber fan whinge, try beating them in the physical stuff and the game. The snipers came out and tried to target the young Saints in R2, but the Saints fought back, beat them physically and by 6 goals, and didn't the Bombers blubb for a week, culminating in Hird blaming the umpires.
ATM your accusations seem false because they spanked you. Try beating them and it is a pleasure to listen to them bleat for the whole of the following week.

:D :D
Exactly, you guys didn't fight back you played footy. But did we cheer because we won a fight?

I can't wait to hear you whinge after we give your mob the bitchslap of the century come rnd 17.

Then again we have smacked you around so much in your history that you're probably used to it.;)

If Hawthorn thought it was tough on Saturday, it's only just begun.

On BigFooty, that would be called 'Hook, Line and Sinker'.

If what happened on Saturday even for the slightest moment has Essendon focused even fleetingly on something other than the game itself the next time they play, then the bait would have been worth it.
And don't think Sheedy won't use it either - for promotional purposes or the game itself.

All Hawthorn showed on Saturday is that after a fight, they go to water.

All 15 clubs now know this and they'll use it. The only way the Hawks can gain respect is win games of footy, and unfortunately with the current team, this isn't going to happen.

Absolutely........atm.
But if your response is typical of the players, coaching staff, supporters, etc, then you'll be more concerned with what MIGHT happen rather than the objective itself next time we play. And if that is the case, then what happened Saturday will have had it's effect. That may be, next year, all it takes.

Supposed to have done that R2, and all we got was whinging Essendon after being beaten on the field and on the scoreboard.

Stop whinging about getting into a bit of a spat with the Hawks, the Bombers are the biggest snipers in the league, but dont we love to hear them whinge when they get beaten. :D

No you whined like an EH diff for a week.

Oh you can't touch Riewoldt, we want the same frees he gets.

Owwww the umpires are cheats. Whinge whinge whinge moan moan. And that was after you went out and sniped the Saints all night.

However the Hawks can't claim anything, you spanked them on the scoreboard.
So in essence you are both a pack of whingers.

We are a different team than the one in round 2 Joffa. We have the firepower to bury your mob. You know it and i know it. It doesn't mean we will win but we are certainly capable.

And nobody's whingeing about the fight. We are just amused that supporters can be happy after their team was bent over to the tune of 74 points

Fair enough, your entitled to your opinion. I just don't think, in the long run, that Hawthorn will gain anything out of Saturday's game.

The sort of players that make people look over their shoulder are Jonathon Brown, Byron Pickett and Michael Voss. I can't imagine too many AFL players being worried if Vandenberg, Brown or Bateman are in the vicinity.

Ridiculus stupid and dirty. Therefore vanderberg is a disgrace and one very weak prick

Somehow I don't believe you - either that or you don't watch too many essendon games

The level of mysogeny and homophobia of some of the posters on this thread is staggering.

A lot of you talk about toughness, but jeez I feel sorry for your wives/girlfriends on Saturday afternoon after your team has lost.

I may be off track, but I thought in your last post that you were suggesting Saturdays fight, may have an effect on the way Essendon plays next time they meet the Hawks.

All I was getting at, is I don't think Hawthorn have the sort of players that will make the Bombers take their eye off the ball, like a Pickett, Voss or Jonathon Brown can.

You hav to remember this Hawthorn team are absolute novices when it comes to going the biff.

Hopefully the admin will build on this and show them how to be tough in all aspects.

One player you mention is an out and out sniper frontrunner and shouldn't be mentioned with the other two

No, you're not off-track.
Similarly to that, if particular individual players aren't going to engage concern with you or others, why bother mentioning them?? It's subliminal.
The media and supporters are looking at this with tunnel-vision. It's not about what happened on Saturday, but about what the expectation of next time is. The seed has been well and truly planted - Essendon supporters, players, coaches and the media. We are a rabble on-field atm, but we may well not be next time, and if Mark Johnson (who I'd love to have at Hawthorn) starts looking to have a go at Vanders, or Sheedy prepares the side for an 'intense physical struggle', then the 'bait' (the word I used earlier) has worked. Bigger picture for us Hawthorn supporters is that finally, legally - morally- justifiably (to anyone) or not, we showed something physical, and not coincidentally to a side that has shown us the same thing for a decade.

I'm not mentioning them because they are clean players, I'm mentioning them because they're the sort of player that can make someone think twice about backing in to a pack or running with the flight of the ball. You can class it as sniping, toughness, stupidity, whatever you like, but at the end of the day, these players are worth their weight in gold, because they can change the way the opposition attacks the footy.

I don't think any Hawthorn player could change the way someone attacks the footy.

OK, now I think I understand where you're coming from. So what you're saying is, if Saturdays game makes the Bombers prepare for their next clash with the Hawks differently than they normally would, it's had an effect.

Good point.

Bingo!

And if that also affects other sides, great. But a point in some way needed to be made - I think without a doubt it was. What that point was will only become clearer in the weeks ahead, and next time we play each other. For Hawthorn's sake, hopefully it's a step (and that's the point many are missing - it's only a step) to becoming a more physical side - rightly or wrongly for what happened on Saturday.
